My dealer swore it wouldn't fit, even though I mentioned your post above that you shared last summer. Are the part numbers above the parts needed for the hardtop itself, or for providing the mountings on an unequipped car? If I have a car that was not ordered with a hardtop, are those the only parts I need to have with a 996 hardtop? And does it matter what year the hardtop was for (eg, 2000, 2001, 2004 etc.)?
Thanks
Thanks
To answer your questions: I think (but can't swear) that the hardware on the 2004 996 top will fit the 996. The parts that my dealer added I think had to do with enabling the defroster on the top to work. I have a feeling that Porsche doesn't bother to install these parts on cabriolets that are not ordered with the top.

Dan, Have you had any problems with chaffing of the soft top while the hard top is in place? I just read a rather long artical from a guy that had big issues with what the hard top did to his soft top

I've had three cabs with hardtops and have not experienced any such problem. Indeed, I don't see how there could be since the hardtop does not come in contact with the soft top; the latter just stays in the same compartment it is stored in when it's not in use.

Not hard, but it takes two people. It was made things easier after I bought a cart for it on eBay. This the one I bought and have been very pleased with it.

Nonsense that it's hard to put on or remove. Can be done literally in seconds with two people as others have noted. I've had four 911s with the hardtop. I love it and I think the 911 with the hardtop in place is the best looking of all the 911s.

I seriously doubt it. The 911s have 2 windows per side (the main door window and the small quarter window next to the small 2 seats in the rear). The Boxster only has one door window. Thus, the 911 hardtop must be longer in length.
