Actually, it's more like Porsche with the "e" in "sche" rhyming with "shed".

Take out the C and drop the E unless you are German or an affected snob.

It is simply how the family name is pronounced. How would you pronounce Ross Perot? I don't think it should sound like parrot. Le Mans? Grand Prix?

I don't think it is snobby to pronounce a name properly. In business, I always ask a new aquaintence the proper pronunciation of their name if I am in doubt.

But we don't say Bay-Um-Vay for BMW, now do we? And Tzee-fear-em-coupay is just too much, although I've european tv announcers say that when calling a race.

Although por-shuh is correct, I most commonly hear porsh, and I don't think its worth correcting all those folks. In fact, I never corrected the woman from Louisiana who was so impressed with her boyfriend's cor-vay (perhaps she thought it came from France and not Kentucky!).

I usually try to avoid these things. But off I go.

To me saying "porsh" instead of Porsche is like saying "vette" instead of corvette. Nothing wrong with it. I think its better than "P-car" which could mean Peugeot.

I do not make it habit to correct the speech of others but the question was asked how to pronounce Porsche. Interesting comment on the Corvette ( with the ending spelled like cigarette and not like Chevrolet) . Oh well, to each his/her own. ( except the President...it is entertaining and yet embarassing to hear him speak.....since he is holding a public office, he should be corrected)

"Vette" is a nickname or a shortened version of Corvette, whereas "Porsh" is a plain and simple mispronunciation of the family name and it sounds just as wrong to me as someone saying Grand Prix or LeSabre phonetically. However, in most circumstances I think it would be rude to correct others when they mispronounce the word. Those in the know should say the word correctly so as to not perpetuate the hacking of it by others.

My next door neighbors are German and I have meet Porsche factory people and Porsche is a 2 syllable word. Pronounced as Porsh-ah.

How about Jaguar? Ever listen to the pronunciation of Mazda with the long a?

No, we all know (most of us anyway). The question was how do YOU pronounce Porsche.

I usually mumble and cough as I pronounce it as not to offend any nearby PCA or Rennlist members.
