You guys are aware that every other car is "tested" before it is shipped. It used to be every car was driven at the factory but that was changed. At least that's what they told me at the factory tour. So maybe that's part of the test. Running to redline.

If you have warranty and only have over-revs in ranges 1-3 then what's the problem?
It's not a Q-Tip special, it's a sports car that's meant to be revved to the red-line.

I still don't understand how the range 2 & 3 happen without downshifting into the wrong gears or if you have software which 'unplugs' the rev limiter function.
I've hit the rev-limiter a few times, as evidenced by fuel starvation, and my car has only registered Range 1 overrevs.

If you run the car to redline, there are zero overrevs by definition.
That's true. Porsche doesn't consider anything an overrev unless it's range 4 and higher. Nevertheless I would have concerns if I were buying a new car with several incidences of range 1s, despite the reassurances that I was given by those who know a hell of a lot more about Porsche engines than I do.

I would think you could over rev simply by hitting redline while in first. That's why the car limits revs in first gear a little lower. The engine spools up so quickly, it can overrev before the limiter kicks in. That would be one way to overrev.
