As you can see there are only a few cars listed in the upper $50s and they have relatively high mileage for a Porsche.

So this car is for maximum grins on the street? For that purpose, I think the 6TT platform is tons (no pun intended) of fun. It doesn't feel that heavy on the street, and you aren't going to experience the weird PSM/ABS/AWD/boostlag voodoo on the street because you're not going to reach those limits, provided that you're a relatively sane driver. It's a lot of fun to approach turns, brake hard, get on the gas basically whenever you want, let the AWD pull you out, and ride the boost/torque to the next turn.
As others have noted on the 6TT forum, a competent suspension helps tremendously. PSS9 is my choice for the street because it's a proven set-and-forget kit with minimal NVH. I don't know if you'll find this setup for under $50, but at any price, it's a hugely fun street car.

You won't find a nice 997 for less than $50k right now. Sounds like the Cayman S fits your priorities the best anyway.

52K range
52K range and some decent negotiating will get you a nice 997..... I am deciding if I want to accept a best and final offer made tonight from local P car dealer on an 05 997 CPO'd nice options (sport chrono, Nav, roof, xenon, sport pwr seats etc...) 16K curent miles. 52K..... you will see many listed at 59K range but people are getting 46-48K on trades and lease returns. Find a dealer with a car they want to move, in my case I am in boston and its snow snow snow....not many people picking up porsches this time of year so thats a help. I agree with this quote sub 50K for a nice with low miles maybe hard, but low 50's very possible...
