Default What Option(s) Do You Wish You Did ~NOT~ Get?

As I wait for my order date in 3 months and try to stay warm in the midwest, I'm left with configuring my new C4S coupe. Because it will be a daily driver, I'm planning on a few amenities (heated seats, etc.), but got to thinking about various other options. I wondered what options others had gotten that they later decided wasn't really worth it or they later hated.

I'm planning on:

C4S
Ruby Red Metallic
Sand Beige Standard Leather
Six-speed Manual
19" Carrera Classic Wheels
Wheel Caps with Colored Crest
Power Seat Package
Heated Seats
Porsche Crest in Seats
Floormats (why is this even an option?)
Self Dimming Mirrors
Stainless Steel Exhaust Pipes
BOSE
Illuminated Sills?

I've toyed with but since opted out of:

Nav
Sport Chrono
Painted Headlight Nozzles (body color)
Short Shifter

So, what do you regret getting (not the best options, but the worst)?

For me the NAV is a huge dissapointment. My $500 garmin is so much better. But i wanted a NAV system and i didnt like the look of sticking one on the dash or window.

Thumbs up Options

*Short shifter is nice if you like that kind of thing. Save the install and have it built in the car to start with. A little tougher for 2nd when cold but it is really nice IMHO.

*I like sports chrono but am not 100% enamored with the size and placement of the device on the dash. The features and adds it brings are nice.

*Consider blacking out the gauges... I have seen it on cars like mine with a black interior and think it is very classy (and free go figure)

*I always carry a fire extinguisher in my car so the factory add on one is quite a good deal (mounts on front of seat on driver side under your legs) I had to buy parts and put it togeather from Prosche..

*Multi-function steering wheel would have been nice in hindsight, not having to reach down is a plus to change music etc... that one is a bit pricey

*If you plan on spirited or some DE track driving I would encourage you to sit in the sport seats... they are really great for support and looks but some folks do not like the fit (sitting) in them. Adaptives are super expensive but the leather sport seats are like $840 or so if memory serves me.

Anyway .... C4S is a super ride.... enjoy that.... that fat bottom on those cars just does it for me.... very nice.

I regret getting the power seat package instead of standard sports seat.

I guess I need to compromise since I was buying from the dealer inventory instead of configure my own car.

One option that no one talks about is the painted rocker panel for the C4 and C4S. I was advised not to get it by the salesperson, but I think that standard black rocker panel looks pretty drab against my midnight blue car. I'm not sure how it will lookwith the ruby red.

I went through the same issues with respect to my order. Because of factory delays I had the opportunity to revise my laundry list 4 times. I will probably have 666 (phone) retrofitted as California is mandating hands-free by July 08.

Otherwise, like the setup. Some salesmen are very good at warning you of mismatches (like that leather entry sill).

My short list:

997 S Cabriolet 6-speed
98 Non-Metallic Paint to Sample (3AS Blue Turquoise)

XSB Sport Seat Backs in Leather

I regret the Tiptronic.

Although it's not really a regret, if I had to do it again I would rather have one of the round-hub sport wheels than the MFSW. At the time, all of the functions sounded like a good idea, but all that I use is the volume control...I'd rather have a nicer looking and feeling wheel.

I regret NOT getting heated seats.

I'd skip the CD changer; I think the same CDs have been in there since 2004.

The memory function for the power seats has been useful with two drivers, and the lumbar adjustment is nice, so they were a good choice even though I would normally take the most agressive seats available.

If I could do it again, I'd go with Atlas while it was still a standard metallic color.

When I was shopping for my 996 I wanted power seats. Thought it was crazy to not have them on that expensive of a car. Several months into ownership I realized that I hardly ever adjusted the seats after the initial setup. The power seats are also heavy. I'll skip them on my 997 order. Might be different if I regularly had other drivers in the car, but my wife never drives it.

Skip the Bose, short shifter(you aren't Michael Schumacher, and the stock shifter can handle quicker shifts than you'll ever make) and power seats (unless you have multiple drivers and will use the memory). Add heated seats. Also, painted interior bits really dress up the interior (I have door finishers and shifter trim; wish I also had dash trim).

Items I don't have that I'd add are Nav (maybe Garmin is better but let's face it...it looks like crap versus an integrated unit), full leather interior (beautiful, but a lot of maintenance I imagine), sport seats. Also, make sure you like the white gauges on the S cars (also, if you get sport chrono, I think it has a black face and it looks kind of silly if you have white gauges, so I'd order them to match).

Would definitley get short shifter; just had it put in and there is a world of difference. It is December and I am having no trouble getting into gears. If you are into a bit of luxury get full leather.Black out dials, heated seats.I like power as well.If I did it again I might not get sport seats but would get loaded power seats with suppel leather if available( as i will not be on the track)Love the sport exhaust, and car seems to fly with it engaged.Tough choices-Good Luck
