To use or not an independent Porsche Mechanic?
#16
My mechanic is FANTASTIC and charges a reasonable rate for his talent. In addition, he treats my car with utmost care. For the 15K mile schedule maintenance the dealership is asking me to fork over $450.00 plus tax and supply fees $475.00. The same service by my Independent Master Porsche Mechanic is $180.00 the price already includes tax and supply fees. Okay, so lets do the math at a cost savings of let’s just say $295.00. My Independent documents ALL service performed, so I have records from a certified Porsche mech.

I did a search and could not find squat…
Will using a reputable independent Porsche mechanic to perform (Manufacturer Recommended Scheduled 15K, 20K, etc., Maintenance) void our warranty?
I plan to comply with the maintenance guidelines as indicated by the Owner’s Manual and Warranty – and avoid potential out-of-pocket repair costs that could result from missing an important scheduled service.
However, if an independent does the Recommended Schedule Maintenance, could the Porsche Dealership refuse to perform warrantable work if required?
I just like knowing my legal options…

I bring my car to an independent. A lot more convenient for me.
It's an oil change. They aren't rebuilding the transmission.

Also consider this, verified by both an independent mechanic and the dealer. The service light for 997s can only be reset at the dealer. There is a proprietary tool needed to do this on the 997s that is too expensive for most independent shops to purchase. Unless someone has figured out a hack for this. Which brings up the other question, can the service light be reset at the dealer without the actual work being performed there?
