Default Valentine 1 enclosed

What do you think of this?: (see link for remote valentine)

I really want a Valentine but not on my windshield. My concerns are:

(1) big, would it fit under the main vent in front of the center radiator in a GT3 (dimensions 1 3/4 inch high by 5 1/2 inch wide by 5 inch deep with a wire protruding)

(2) encased in magnesium and aluminum shell (will it decrease sensitivity?)

(3) low to the ground, lose rear detection of both radar and laser

I don't buy the aft detection capabilities of this design. RF has to penetrate an entire vehicle? It is not going to work.

If they manage to split the receiving antennas and switching logic into a couple of remoted boxes that's one thing. Their photo is so small it's impossible to ascertain what they're doing.

I have a V1 mounted on the passenger sun visor with the clip reversed so it's stable. It's not "on" the windshield and I wouldn't think of driving without it. I've had it that way for 5 years on various cars and it works perfectly. Save the money and go for what is a proven form factor

I am having my V1 display etched into the rear view mirror, with the main unit concealed in a custom visor. I'm dropping the car off tonight and will post pics when i get it back this weekend.

This is how I used to mount my radar detectors years ago, but the manuals for most contemporary detectors (in my case, Passport 8500 X50) advise against mounting like this, because the tint at the top of the windshield apparently interferes with reception and compromises sensitivity of the unit. I have never empirically tested this or seen anyone test this, but I have opted to take the manufacturer's word for it and go by the manual. Anyone have some good evidence that it makes little or no difference mounted up high in the tint of the windshield versus somewhat lower down beneath the rear view mirror?
