Test drove 997 2S today... Disappointed
Hi people,
For some weeks I have been debating with myself to change my 964 C4 for a newer Porsche - Cayman S or 997 C2S are my options
Well, I went to the dealer today and test drove a 997 C2S with Tiptronic transmission. Immediately (yes, immediately !) I felt very disappointed with this car... The sound cannot be compared at all with my 964... It also didn't feel as quick as I thought it would be
On the other hand, the Tiptronic transmission is terrible. Very slow, up or downshift. It really kills the feeling !
I test drove last week a new TT with DSG transmission and it's true what the magazines say... DSG is by far the best automatic transmission, nothing compares to it !
Well, after my test drive of the 997 2S I took my 964 and just after starting it, wow ! The sound is awesome ! The roughness of the gear box, pedals and all is really an experience...
Gotta love the 964 !
On the other hand, sure the 997 TT or the 997 GT3 are incredible, but comparing my 964 C4 with a 997 2S Tiptronic I was really amazed by the result, not good. Maybe the Tiptronic transmission is to blame for ?
Just my experience of today, no bad feelings or bad intentions here !

Go test drive an F430 F1. You will be amazed.
Now if a car in the 120k range sounded/acted/handled/performed like that, we'd all be lining up.

the sound of a 996/997 is really very disappointing. In my opinion PSE or an aftermarket equivalent is a must.
It's amazing how much of a difference it makes to the driving experience.

Which TT are you referring to? Audi TT (which is the only TT with DSG) or the 997 TT which AFAIK has yet to be released with a DSG box.

You simply wasted your time and fossil fuels driving a Tiptronic without PSE.
Now go drive a better equipped car. 6-speed with Porsche Sport Exhaust. You should also make sure it's an S with 19 in rims.
That's one of the things about today's Carreras. They are designed to be so tailorable that you can get any feeling (or none) that you want from it.
Try again.
