5177 mi Road Trip
A great journey covering 5177 miles (car now has 7849 mi on the clock)
LA to Illinois then to TN/NC for the Dragon, on to Birmingham for PDE (mostly US highways 90%) and return to LA.
The GT3 is a great car on the road and comfortable for long hauls, longest stint 818 mi.
Did "Tail of the Dragon" as well as Cherohala Skyway. WOW, great roads and beautiful country.
No oil consumption for the trip.
Reasonable fuel economy of 24.7 overall.
Attended another PDE Masters, Barber Motorsports is a great track to drive.
Do not be afraid to drive your Porsche !!

That really is what I love to do is take long trips in my 997. It is the best touring car of the 911 seres. It's just a car I can drive all day and want to keep going when I get there. Why stand in lines at airports when you can enjoy the freedom of the road in one of the precise cars of all time?
For the money, could of gone on a World Cruise or spent a summer in Paris at the Ritz. But that would be over in time. My 997 is still calling me from the garage and saying what's next?

MJones you are livin' the life!
I drive my car a lot and now have 7340 miles on it in 8 months. I hope to take it on a trip from Florida to attend my Masters Class.

Thats one super trip you must have had...I envy you.
I write with shame... I've had my car for 10 months and have only managed to put on 2700 miles on it. Have spent way too much time away from home. I have however managed to do the Dragon twice and loved it.

Jones.. Too Cool. Good for you! Got to air out your head...
We're up to almost 2k in 6mos. on our 'S'. Have a plan to go back to Cape Breton Is., Nova Scotia from Maryland. Last time by plane: one-way was 12hrs in 4 planes + Hertz. (faster/cheaper to go to Europe)
Bet those bikers on the Dragon were drooling...

Good for all you folks who actually drive these cars as opposed to keeping them hidden in a garage worrying about the miles.
I drove mine home from Cleveland and it was an awesome trip..even though it got a ding (which has been repaired). These are driving machines, and I drive mine all the time.
Hopefully it will have a million miles on it before I get another. The value is in driving it, not what can be realized on resale.
Happy trails to all!!

MJones,
Great movie. I chuckled when the tumbleweeds started blowing; next shot--dead tumbleweed in grill. After a bit I started wondering how much attention a red GT3 gets from the local revenue generators; next shot--pulled over by cop. I'm interested in more impressions of the 911 as a road tripper (esp. regarding the police issue).

Great route but you're STILL not driving it enough! Why do I have 10,700 miles on mine and I got it WAY after you!?
Keep driving! Step away from the computer!
