Though Porsche has placed the 911 at the top of the hierarchy, the Cayman S is every bit as fast as a 911 - those Porsche numbers don't fool me. I have no doubt that an average driver would get equal or better lap times in a Cayman S than a 997 just because the mid engine layout is so intuitive. (No wonder they didn't put a LSD on the Cayman S).
Knowing what I know now, I'd get a pre-owned 997 C2 (for value), or a 997 GT3 (for the thrill), or a 993 TT (for resale, and sound). I might even consider a Boxster S (for the fun).

from what i saw on track, given equal driver, 996 997 non s are slower than cayman.
x51's, they are gone, no way can cayman keep up.
997s, close call. very close call.
