Check Engine Light On
Hi All,
I got a new 06 C4S two weeks ago. I love the car but today the check engine light suddenly came on. My car only has 266 miles and I have never go pass 4k rpm since the engine is still breaking in. I did add 0.5 qt of mobil1 0w-40 after the first refuel because the oil display lose 1 bar. Is this mean my car has RMS problem? Any 997 owners have the same experience?
Thanks for any input!

check engine is probaly a loose gas cap, and no you probaly dont have a rms issue, the cars are shipped a half qt low most of the time the dealer might have missed it on the pdi

not related... but your car is overfilled with oil. 1 bar down is fine, and it think it is = 0.2 qt oil... would drain some or ask mechanic to do it...

1 bar down is my normal run mode. There's a lot of oil in that system, and the last thing that you want is to be overfilled... good idea, John.
Man, your car is BEAUTIFUL. Love the Sport Designs...

I live in what can be extreme heat, I've never topped of any of my fluids.
Maybe OT: if the outside temp is 105 (dry heat naturally) and your driving 'spiritedly' what is the temp of the oil?

B: This summer, when we hit 100 in Chicago, I saw 235 (to maybe 240) on the oil temp after some thrashing (with the 0w-40 Mobil 1 factory fill). This morning, at 46 degrees F, it never went over 200-205... 215-220 is about normal for my car at 70 degrees nominal.

Thanks for all the info guys!
Drop off the car at the dealership yesterday, I got a call from the service advisor this morning. He said its because the computer that monitoring the fuel cap keep telling the system the fuel cap is loose even it is proper tie on. The replacement part won't arrive at the dealership until next monday. So I am stuck with the enterprice rental for the whole weekend.

Those Enterprise rentals are nice aren't they ;-) At least you get something to drive. I think they do it on purpose so you will appreciate your 911 ten times more when you get it back.

I hate that! My dealer has had my car over 1 week and it will not be ready until Monday at the earliest. I have severe withdrawal symptoms.
