Porsche to offer seven-speed DSG
Gearbox could be used in everything from Boxsters to race cars
6:00 am, July 25, 2006
Patent documents filed by Porsche in Germany indicate the company is preparing a seven-speed double-clutch gearbox for use in everything from the Boxster to the 911 to the Carrera GT-based mid-engined GT1 race car. Porsche had hoped to complete work on its sequential manual gearbox in time for this summer’s introduction of the 997-based 911 Turbo, but that car initially arrives with a Tiptronic automatic or a six-speed manual. No word on when Porsche plans to introduce the new transmission.

IMO, the Direct Shift Gearbox "DSG" is a great tech advancement and will cut a couple of seconds off your race time, but could be boring for some at average speeds and decide to place the DSG on drive (auto)... I'll just wait and see...

YEAH !!!
Hopefully soon there will be a button on the car so I don't even have to drive.
How cool would that be. I can just drink my latte, talk on the phone and occassionally yell out the window,
"Do you know who I am.. I'll have you killed!!"

For all the DSG haters, perhaps they will offer a non-synchro 6 speed so you can really get involved. That, plus power steering-delete, and rear drum brakes. I understand a model with rear-view mirror delete is also being readied for those who want the purest experience. A crank-starting model has been witnessed testing. The handle comes out right under the wing.AS
