It can sound better - get PSE and unplug it and you'll giggle like a schoolgirl every time you let it rip (and in some ways it sounds even better as it winds back down).

I did 6000 RPM's on purpose for the first time when I hit 2000, but for lunch I let my friend drive my car and we had a pretty fun time together hitting the 6500+ range. Of course, those here may recall that was the day he accidentally tapped the front end.

Now I find it difficult not to wind it up to a minimum of 4000 RPM's on every change, and frequently find myself "forgetting" to get out of 3rd gear because it is just SO MUCH FUN!

Agreed, Ron... maybe that's why my gas mileage is low... <g>

It seems that, around town at least, 5th and 6th gears are useless. Of course, on a level highway, 6th can get you close to 25mpg at 65mph.

"I could shift up, dear - but it just doesn't sound the same..." <g>

Have fun!

Autocross it in 2nd gear at 7000 RPM and feel the raw power. ABS will bring slow it down on demand. Awesome.

Does anyone use 5th and 6th in the states? What is the rpm at 65-70 in 6th?

I used 6th on the highway for long cruises in my 996. Better mileage, less noise, relaxing ride. On the relatively flat drive to my sister's in Birmingham, the p-car was able to handle all the minor hils in 6th without lugging.

Seems like the 997 group is alot more excited about their P-cars than the 997TT group.

Mind if I hang out over here for awhile? I like the attitude because you like the Porsches and I appreciate the bias. You don't seem to care about the comparisons or nitpick about this or that about the cars regardless of which 997 version you drive, i.e. Cab, C4S, etc.!

I can relate to building up the mileage on break-in. My son and I having been doing that since getting our car on July 8th. We're taking it slow, only 330 miles so far, not driving it everyday though. No oil burned yet so far, but I did realize that you have to be on a very level surface to get a proper oil reading (anyone else?).

ofcourse if you want the power to hit 100 quick - stay in 3rd or 4th

I'm planning something orgasmic.

Seriously, I'm doing the clear bra on Monday, followed by a long drive or two through Northern Arizona, and then I'm going to open the car up on some of my favorite drives here in Arizona. Going to have some serious *** time in that car next week.
