Default Does Your Key Fob Always Work?

Mine will not work in the supermarket parking lot. Just around the corner is a television station and across the street is what looks like a cell phone tower.

Manual states some radio signals may interfere with proper operation of the Fob.

Puzzling thing is I live only three blocks from the supermarket and it works fine at home. Anyone else run into this little problem?

Nope, you are sure your battery is not getting weak?

This can happen depending on the interference, it's not unique to Porsche remotes. It can affect one manufacturer type and not another. My wife and I have been in the same parking lot with separate cars - one will work, the other won't ... go figure .

If you have another key fob on your keychain, it can "scramble" the Porsche one. I have my wife's BMW key fob on my keychain, and it used to scramble my Boxster key fob. Hasn't happened yet to my 911 key fob, but it's probably only a matter of time. All you need to do is open the door manually with the key and it seems to reset it.

Default Maybe we should exchange keys

While we're at it let me remind everybody to take that stored key out and exchange it for the key you are using daily. The manual sez something about doing this. I forget why, in my BMW the key is actually recharged by being used in the ignition. I think Porsche key code is forgotten and needs to be reinitialized after a long storage without use.

I was reading lately that it's easy for modern theives to break into cars with a laptop now that can figure out key fob codes. Apparently the key fob guy's are doing little to address the problem(probably don't want to have to spend the money to come up with more advanced technology.)

Key fob related: has anyone's button (the car lock/unlock button) jammed, where it won't spring up? Mine not only jams, but sometimes it jams in a position where it is transmitting the lock/unlock signal. Very annoying. I need to make some time to hit the dealer and have them deal with it.

I got a black index card and slid it down the dashboard to cover the VIN number.

THAT might help.

So did I. I don't think it has anything to do with breaking the key fob codes though.

My key fob works especially well when it is in my pocket while I am cleaning the car-it usually locks/unlocks the doors a few times while I am bending down cleaning. One time I was hosing down the front of the car, bent down with the hose to blast some leaves out of the air intakes and it popped open the hood for me!!Doh!

WOW! I figured VIN info would be the only way Porsche can create a new key (or mess with anti-theft systems). That's a real depressing thought if the **** car thieves don't even need the VIN to steal your car.

Try this - stick the fob against your throat when pressing the open switch. It makes your body an aerial and so works in difficult areas. Freaks everybody out though.

It does work - under your chin, near your throat and open your mouth.

Capacitance-coupled human antenna? Cool idea.
