Question Any problem or benefit to putting 305s on my 997S?

I was wondering if it is a good move to put the 305s on the rear of my 2005 997S instead of the stock 295s. I have the 19" Carrera Classic Porsche wheels and track the car about every 2-3 months. Is there anything I should know about mounting the 305s on my car? Benefits or problems to be aware of?

Thanks for the advice,

Flash

Check the offset - it's stamped on the wheel at the valve stem. You probably have an offset of 67. The C4 with the 305's has an offset of 51 so you'll need the 17mm spacer. Check with some wheel experts like Wheel Enhancement.

My 997S Cab will be coming with the XRR rims which take the 305/30x19 tires. The only difference from the other 997S wheels is they are .5 inches wider front and rear. I wouldn't think you would have any issue with such a minor upgrade from 295.

I don't think a 17mm spacer in the rear would do anything other than cause your tires to rub against the inside of your fender wells. I have a 2005 997S, with the 19" classic rims, and I upgraded to the 305's when the 295's wore out. No reason to not do it - it will give you a little bit more rubber in the back. I did put spacers in the front though, the 5mm porsche factory ones, to even up the track width.

Go for it!

As lawjdc said, you don't need spacers if you a just going to change your tire from a 295 to a 305..

Thanks for the info guys. I dont see any drawbacks to putting 305s on the rear of my S. I would imagine the car would not only look better but handle better at the track.

Thanks for the info,

I third the no need for spacers. I installed 305/30s in the rears when I replaced my tires.

The way I read it, you only need the spacers if you use the Carrera Sport wheels (8.5/11.5) with the 305/30 rear tire on the 4 WD models.

i think you can fit 5-7mm spacers all around with your new tires and you will be fine. I think in a few months you will probably even be thinking that the car would look better with the wheels further out. Even though techart and h&r told me it would be ok, i dont think 17 or even 15mm spacers willl work with the 67 offset on the narrow carrera.
i had 7mm all around with 295 rears, no problem

Thats what I did. Actually, the car now looks like it should have from the beginning. Hopefully I will be able to post some new photos by the weekend.
