Do what I did when I wanted an accurate weight reading......a scale. IIRC it was about $5-10 at one of the local truck stops.

robbonds 05-12-2006 11:17 AM

local truck stop - how do i find one of those?

LVDell 05-12-2006 11:24 AM

We got the list from the movers but unfortunately it is for the Las Vegas area. However, most, if not all, "real" truck stops should have one.

Generally, they are along the interstate highways. You could look in the telephone book.

Spec grav of gasoline is approx .7

Water weighs 8.34 lb/gal

Therefore .7 X 8.34 X number of gallons is your answer.

You caluclations put it closer to 5.8# a gal. I thought it was closer to 6.5# per gallon of gas. But IIRC correctly is also dependent on grade and temp?

Either way, a full tank of gas is probably in the area of 100# (taking into account a 16 gallon tank). A variance of 5-10# is not something that you would notice. So, a quick and dirty way to think about it is about 25# per 1/4 tank.

I've seen anything from .66 to .88 quoted as spec grav for gasoline. However the Chem sites seem to gravitate toward the lower end of this range.

I think your approximation however is just fine in any case.

So, you are Leaving Las Vegas? Good man, nothing there really for a youg upward couple. Though your wife as a physician would have plenty of substrate. :icon501:

So true. Nothing really here. Time to move on to a better place.....something more indicative of reality rather than this fantasy land.

Sorry, but you lost me on the "substrate".

micgreeny 05-12-2006 01:38 PM

you can get your weight a the dumps, free.

Seal 05-12-2006 03:28 PM

weighing is the only way to get the right number. If you want to calculate you would need to know the weight difference of all the options such as bose, leather, electric seats etc. That stuff isn't published so a trip to the weighing station is the only way to go.

A substrate is a compound or substance upon which an enzyme (or any catalyst/agent) acts.

Your wife is a physician and without becoming political, much of medicine is practiced upon the older generations.

Hope this clears it up.

LVDell 05-12-2006 03:41 PM

Ah....that helps allegretto! Not much of the medicine has worn off on me but I totally see your point

Jeff........yes the traffic is absolutely HORRIBLE here!!! This city has grown faster than it can accommodate the citizens with the current transportation infrastructure. Drving to the University everyday for me is quite the chore and my wife's commute to the hosiptal can be routinely over an hour each direction. Thank God those days are over. Looking forward to my new home :biggulp:
