Default Radio Question

Do all 2005 997's have the ability to play MP3s? Can the Bose system play MP3s?

Yes, latest PCM's (H/W and S/W versions).

BTW, MP3 has nothing to do with Bose option or not. The PCM headunit is responsible for MP3 decoding/human interface and is made by Becker.
Bose only produces the amplifier/speakers for the Bose option and uses the same PCM.

Actually all 997 produced after April 2005. I believe if it was produced in April than maybe yes or maybe no. You should check your version numbers to be sure. Search this board for the instructions.

If you already have the car, just make a MP3/ WMA disc and stick it in.

Does anyone know if MP# disks can be played in the CD changer (in the trunk) as well as the head unit ?

I have been having trouble getting regular CDs burned on ITunes to play in the changer so I would think that MP3 CDs would definetly not play in the changer. I had the car into the dealer for the exhaust tip repair and had them check the changer which they say is fine. So it looks like I can't play the CDs burned on the computer in the changer (they work fine in the player in the head unit). Also, I have tried three different types of disks to see if that would resolve the problem. Very annoying!

If your car is capable of decoding MP3 files, they will only play in the head unit.....not the changer.

Itunes defaults to storing its music in MP4 format. The P-car won't play MP4. You have to convert all your Ipod music to MP3 and then burn a disk using the MP3 formatted files.

Actually I have burned my CD collection into ITunes in the AAC Lossless (full bit rate) and I have been burning regular audio CDs from ITunes (only about 18 songs will fit on an 80 Minute/700 MB disk). The CDs that I am burning play just fine in the CD player in the head unit inside the car but they do not play in the changer. I have tried varying the brands of CD-R disks that I am using and have tried to different record speeds - none of which have helped. Has anyone had success burning regular audio CDs and getting to play in the Changer? (And the car was just at the dealer and they say the changer is fine)

No problem with home burned CDs in the CD changer or head unit. But I use MAM-A gold archival CDs (which I use for my business, which is music/media) and a Plextor Premium burner. Also, I print my labels using a Primera thermal printer. Don't use paper labels - the extra thickness can cause problems on some CD players, and the paper labels can also induce a bit of wobble that makes it difficult for the laser to read them. Sorry, not much help - only that I've been successful with my particular combination of discs and equipment.
