Default My first DME - 05 C2S

Hello!

Hoping to bounce some thoughts with the community on my first DME pull. I recently picked up a Durametric and logged the following:

Range 1 - 8128/3827.8h
Range 2 - 1419/1560.3h
Range 3 - 229/1560.3h
Range 4 - 4/1507.3h
Range 5 - 0/0
Range 6 - 0/0

Operating Hours - 1553.3
87652km on vehicle

Vehicle was a CPO. No bore score or accidents and has full service history with major items replaced (IMS, RMS, cables, clutch, water pump, belts and tensioners)

From all the threads I’ve been reading it looks like the car has been driven normally (avg speed 56km/h). The rev range of 4 is fairly small but don’t know if that’s a cause for any concern.

Looking for some feedback from those with more experience reading these values. Trying to understand why the range 1 hours are so much more than operating?

Edit:
I appreciate all the feedback. This thread has brought up a good find. For those with tuned or untuned vehicles, did your Type ID DME control unit have an underscore (_) in front of it? If so was the car tuned?

Trying to figure out if there is a correlation between these underscored ID’s and a potential tune affecting the way ignition events are captured.

Thanks RL!

Always search Google for what you’re looking for and “Rennlist 997”.

20 years of knowledge and issues out there.

Found this thread that might be relevant:

https://rennlist.com/forums/997-foru...ing-hours.html

On the Range 4, I would say that is a misreading, I would disregard.

I would buy this car if everything else checks out.

I passed on the first 997 I PPI’d due to DME, it was a horror show. This one seems fine,

Pretty sure those Over-Revs in Range 4 look to be many many hours ago (Over 1500 hrs) so I believe you are good but get more feedback.
Did you get the Cam Deviation numbers from the DME reading? Those can be quite useful and important.

Something is wrong with that DME or the read. You can't have overrevs logged at an hour mark that's higher than the total operating hours - that's a cumulative counter. Either someone has replaced that DME at some point, the scan tool isn't reading it right, or there's been some kind of tune written to it or puggy backed to it that has messed up the hour counter.

I appreciate all the feedback!

Is there a simple way to validate that the car has a tune with the Durameteic? I read in a thread that a tune could potentially double the count every hour.

I poked around a few DME threads and noticed that the Type ID I have has an underscore in it compared to the other types seen around the internet.

car runs super smooth with no issues and no faults or ce lights. Only modification is the oem gt3 exhaust with custom 200 cell cats on oem headers. I’m going back to oem exhaust and cats with the fvd gt3 center relocation pipes. Just making sure I don’t run into anything funny when it all comes together.

That's a very astute observation about that underscore before the Type ID DME number.

I pulled the reports from both of my 997s and my car that is a C2S but has a DME from a Twin Turbo that RUF installed as part of the supercharger engine management system also has that underscore, whereas my wife's 997 C2S that is just normal does not.

If there's some consistency in this where tuned cars or cars without the original DME get that underscore when the report is pulled, that will give us good intel when people create threads for us to interpret their DME results when shopping for a car.

Anyone else have a tuned car where you can pull a DME report with Durametric and see if you have the underscore or if others who know they have a non-tuned car can pull theirs and verify there is no underscore?

Here's mine - 2005 C2S. As far as I know, no computer has been changed.

^^Interesting to see the high numbers in Range 1 as well.
On my 2006 C4, when I had PPI performed before purchase at 106,065 miles my Over Rev Report was:
Range 1 - 2821
Range 2 - 210
Range 3 - 13
Range 4 - 0
Range 5 - 0
Range 6 - 0

My previous 997S had 1 Range 5 and 1 Range 6 Over Revs at 97 hours which was attributed to "blip" from either ignotion or battery disconnection/change
Have seen the range 5 & 6 blips on other members reports

**Just dug around and found that Over Rev Report with the Range 5 & 6 blips.
I believe it was my 2007 997S I purchased out of Houston years ago. Had about 83,000 miles and operating hours were 1887 hours at time of PPI

Do the ranges have the same meaning from submodel to submodel (997.1 Turbo, GT3, just "S", AWD, etc.) and regardless of model year? In other words, how do I interpret the ranges for a 2005 997.1 C2S?

Your "Type ID DME control unit" does not have an underscore in it...

^^From what I understand the model designation shouldn't have anything to do with the Over Rev Ranges/totals but I am not 100% sure.
As yu nentioned I see that on my Report I posted the "Type ID DME Control Unit" does not have an underscore before the DME ID#? ---->Good find and not sure why?

Intersting that both you and OP have the high Over Rev numbers in Range #1 and both have the underscore before the DME ID#??
Maybe someone else with more knowledge can chime in

**Confirming that DME full Report I posted above was my 2007 997S with approx 88K miles which I bought in Houston and PPI performed by Einar's Garage 7-10-2019.

Great feedback everyone. I updated my original post to capture this Type ID with the underscore and seeing if there a correlation to the doubled hours for ignition events.

With your lower number of miles(87,000KM = 54,000 miles) it's almost triple(or more) than the Over-Rev total compared to the non-Underscored totals.
Looking forward to hearing the answer - Sure makes sense it has something to do with the DME ID type.
Very good topic as I have never seen these high numbers before - jchapura needs to be a forensic investigator - Great find!

Would all those range values seem high for the amount of hours vs km? I was only focused on range 1 but would those other ranges be there too? The range 1 hours are about 2.5x the operating hours for my car but based on other feedback it’s almost 4x.

is something goofy happening with range 1 or all the ranges?

What would be interesting is to log a new overev - just a normal one, like make sure the engine is completely warmed up and do a 2nd gear acceleration until you feel it bounce off the rev limiter - no damage is done by this type of overev - its the missed diwnshift ones that swnd rhe rpms into range 3 and above.

What I'm interested to see if if the overev you create in range 1 and maybe range 2 has an hour stamp that matches the new total hour counter number. It should and that's normal. If the new overev doesn't match the hour counter for total hours something is wrong with the way the DME is logging overrevs.
