Ben, thankfully that mark you see is a artifact from the digital camera!!!!
I am going to take her to a shop for the professional touch-up. Do you really think they'll be able to get her good as new or, absent that, to a point where neither you nor I could tell it ever happened? If a small amount of plastic was scraped off, do they 'fill it' and then sand it such that if you run your finger over the final result you cant tell there is an indentation? Sure, its underneath, but I am curious. Every time I wax in that area I do not want to remind myself of my stupidity.

Just remember not to pull in so deep in parking spots from now on. You're just used to driving those huge behemoths with huge back ends, that's why you pull in as far as you do. After this lesson I'm sure you'll be parking at least a foot away if not more. That's what I do.

Well, you got that right. I learned the lesson about scraping rims with the M5 and I am quite aware now of not pushing the turning radius or cutting corners too close on the 911 or the SUV for that matter.
You really made me feel better that I can make this 'mistake' disappear. Calling my shop tomorrow.

This is probably just a "Don getting used to his 997" thing but I notice the front of it extends further than I would have thought. Have come close to touching the garage (back) wall a few times, now know to add a few inches on to where I think the front is.

I visited my body shop today. The main painter told me he can fix it good as new without having to remove and repaint the bumper cover. He described the process pretty much spot on as OCBen described it. I was scared because the intake manager (my contact) initially told me on the telephone she thought the bumper cover would require removal and repainting, but the scrape is so minimal that they can repair without a major ordeal.
So it goes in Monday after the holiday. They are going to fix the tiny rock chip too. And then the Clear Bra goes on. Lessons learned.

So what happened John? A little scrape or bruise? Tell us, and I will relay to my contact your incident to ascertain whether they'll take your job (they do very limited custom patch work and do mostly major collision insurance work, but they did say they would take my referrals).
