It's Crunch Time !!

Ok, it's crunch time, I'm ready to place my order. I'm debating between the following two specs. I can get a Jan build on either. Thanks in advance for your insights and feedback.

Bear in mind I plan to keep this car for a long time, maybe for ever, and initially it will be my everyday car. The basic difference betwen the choice is 4WD vs Full leather & Power Seats. I live in CT so we have a few bad snow days per year and quite hard winters.

Option A

C4S, Arctic, Black Standard Leather, Black Mats, Manual Seats, Rear Wiper, TPMS, PSE, Short Shift, Black Dials, Carrera Classic 19", 459 Steering Wheel (prefer the shape), Set of Winter tires on Carrera S 19" wheels

Option B

C2S, Arctic, Black Full Leather, Black Mats, Power Seats, Rear Wiper, TPMS, PSE, Short Shift, Black Dials, Carrera Classic 19", 459 Steering Wheel (prefer the shape), Set of Winter tires on Carrera S 19" wheels

What do you think guys (and gals) ?

Go with the PHATT  rear !

JFScheck Nov 4, 2005 10:04 AM

Go with Full Leather and Power Seats, the 997S does great in the snow if that is indeed your worries! Just get a second set of rims with winter tires.

As for the full leather and power seats, you will be glad year round you selected them! Oh, but don't forget the heated seats!!!! ;)

I agree with JFScheck. Go with the Full Leather and Power Seats - and get the heated seats. I would also get the self-dimming mirrors because it gives you a power source at the front roof area to hardwire a radar detector such as the V1 to a switched power source. But I think you are making a mistake if you go for the C4S with manual seats and non-full leather.

Man, I'd hold out for the whole enchalada.

You're going to have this car for a long time. Why not wait for a C4S with leather and power seats? I don't quite understand why you can't get everything you want. Were these cars already ordered? Can't you order your own with a later build date? What's a few months if you're going to have the car forever?

Get what you want, nothing more, nothing less.

Aerosmith - No they are not ordered. I'm working to a buget so there have to be trade offs. At the ned of the day I could probaly suck it up and get the leather & power seats on a C4S, but part of me is thinking the C2S is more of a pure Porsche.

Absolutely!

James: I think you will be thrilled with either car. The 2S will have a lighter, more sporty feel to it. I don't know how deep your snow gets, but in the Sierra Nevadas the snow gets too deep to drive the P car anyway, so the 4S may not help you out much. Just a couple of suggestions - you haven't included the Sport Chrono pkg, which completely transforms the car when you press the sport button. I can't imagine not having it. And if possible, you should try out all the seat types, as the shape of your butt may make one particular type more comfortable than the others. For me, it was the adaptive sport seats. Finally, you have black dials listed. One of the nice surprises for me was the silver dials, which change color in twilight to a grey color, then go to black in full darkness. Good luck!

words of wisdom!!! but whats the advantage of the full leather...looks??? is it worth 3k??? i like power seats because of lumbar support is great on them...the 4s looks wild in person, you can diffinitely tell the difference and i t looks more aggressive...but for 7k, and more weight and increased complexity , is it worth it...tough   call...

Crazy Canuck Nov 4, 2005 02:08 PM

Full leather makes the interior of the car. I am happy I got it each and every time I sit in the car.

I have the black gauges and I like them. I would order them again.

I cursed the fact that I had to order power seats to get the lumbar adjustment but so be it. Heated seats are nice.

Sport Chrono is a must. I would have ordered TPMS had it been available when I ordered mine last December.

If you are going to track the car be aware that the 4S will understear more than the 2S. I agree that the 2S is the more "pure" Porsche which is why I bought mine.

Loaded C2S is my pick.

Somebody mentioned above the different seats. Do the Sport Seats fit that much differently than the Adaptive Sport Seats?

Weissy Nov 4, 2005 03:00 PM

I don't drive the car without Sport Chrono. Makes the car a entirely different car all together. I have the full leather and love it. Some people won't like this but I think it makes the car. You have 90k car, how can you have anything but full leather in there?? Plus it just looks great and really puts the finishing touch on the inside of the car. I live in CT as well and you wont be driving a c4s in our snow! Will be way to deep for a typical snow storm. My c2s is my daily driver and with snow tires my car does well enough on sloppy roads. I also have the sport seats (the most $$$) forget what they call them. I love them as well.... love there look and feel. Just my .02

Full leather, sports chrono, dimming mirrors. I would put all of them on my next car...which won't be awd.

jcnesq Nov 4, 2005 04:46 PM

No question the wider rear on the C4S looks sweet; don't know how badly you need 4WD.

My 04 Targa did not have full leather, and it bugged me lots. The 997 w/o full leather may be a little better, but despite understanding budgets and in the past thinking full leather was an expensive luxury I didn't have to have, my view now is that full leather is simply a must have option.

Sport chrono - IMO don't get an S without it.
Get self dimming mirrors, heated seats - definitely worth it.
Glad you are getting PSE and sport shifter - I added them after getting my car and absolutely love both.
Seats - I have the adaptives and love them; they include the power seat functions. With full leather, I think adaptives are about $2,500, versus $1,200-1,500 alone just for power seats, so the extra cost is not bad.

When I got my 04 Targa, my wife told me more than once to make sure I was getting what I wanted and that she didn't want to hear me whine that I didn't get what I want (I had given up my 993 for some tough times and after a p-car hiatus had a Boxster S as a cheaper substitute). I got in a conservative mood and got the Targa w/o full leather and in a color that wasn't my first pick (got a great deal on it though). Then on 997 launch day I went to look, lost my mind and got a 997S launch car. Bottom line - especially since you plan to keep this car a long time, find a way to get what you really want, even if you have to wait a little longer for the car. You will be doing yourself a favor.

Hey 1080iAddict...

Did you get your clear bra yet? I have the guy that did "9Eleven's" doing the Cayenne and Boxster on Tuesday, the 997S the day after she arrives! ;)
