Thanks for DIY. It's beginning to be a PITA plugging into the power outlet.

Another successful customer. I have the cab. I could never get the light out by itself, so I popped out the two HomeLink switches, removed the two bolts and drop the whole unit. Was a bit nerve racking but overall pretty easy.

Great write up... wish I had seen it last year when I installed my Escort Redline. Going on the index post for future reference for all.

Hey guys. I understand this is an old thread but I could use your help here. So my live wire seems to be black and red (not orange) but anyway, when this is done, would the radar detector turn off when key's removed? When I checked the voltage, regardless of key position, the black/red wire indicates 9V. First of all, it's a bit odd to me that stays at 9V, not 12 and that wire seems to be the only live wire and picture above shows that it IS the live wire. Well, it's kind of hard to tell w/o the detector (It's supposed to arrive today but it hasn't) lol but anyway your insight would be appreciated. Thank you.

I followed this DIY a few months ago and everything went smoothly. It is a switched circuit, so the detector is only powered when the ignition is in Pos 2. The key does not have to be removed to kill power to the circuit/detector.

I'll let you know once my detector arrives and checks out with that wiring. Thank you for assurance Hootsama.

So I tried every single damn wire but nothing worked. The OP mentioned 9 wires but mine has only 5 and the remaining 4 are empty. Not sure if that's the reason it didn't work though. I have no orange/black wires. 2 browns, 2 black/red and 1 purple. Anyway darker brown is a ground for sure. Then I tried all the other ones but other than the one that gets 7-9V with on and off the car, the others have no electricity. I gave up. I have already spent like 3 hours trying to figure this thing out shamefully. I want to believe mine doesn't have the necessary live wire. Not sure if it's due to lack of sunroof but some above installed it just fine with same cab top as mine so I have no idea why mine didn't work. I even checked all fuses to make sure I didn't blow anything. And ran the car with every function checked. So electrically, nothing is abnormal but still the mirror tap just didn't work.
I will just hard wire it to fuse box. I should've done that hours ago..
By the way, where do the white molex wires go anyway? Every instruction I have found says "mirror" but there are many mirrors in the car. I guess rear view mirror and the only electrical function I can think of with rear view mirror is auto dimming when there's a glare from behind. But mine only has manual dimmer. Maybe I should've flicked the manual dimmer lever while testing the voltage? By the time I thought of that, I got sick of fiddling with that so I gave up....I feel so defeated...

Your setup is different than mine so I can't help on the specifics, other than to say it took me three times - I felt defeated and useless after the first two. I finally realized on my .2 coupe that I was trying to connect to the wrong brown wire if I remember correctly. It's working now, it's wonderful having a switched mirror tap and mount. Don't give up! I watched multiple YouTube videos as well, they helped me get there.

You are very kind Kineticdg. You are the example of why I keep coming back here. At this point though, I just ordered hard wire kit to tap into fuse box. Once I get the return label from Blendmount, I will return the mirror taps. Since it will take a few more days for me to get the hardwire kit, I guess I may try a couple more times. Thank you my friend.
