Default Tell us what you were thinking when you drove off the lot

When you took delivery of your new 997/S do you remember what you were thinking when you were about to drive off the lot for the first time?

Tell us (especially us weary long-time waiters) about it!

Thoughts (in order of occurance as I left the dealership)

1) I hope I don't crash this car
2) Did I really just pay this much for a car?
3) Wow, I lost a bunch of cash - just by driving off the lot...
4) Damn, this thing is stable and fast!
5) See ya slow pokes!
6) Why is everyone looking at me?
7) Damn! It is going to be hard to be good during the break in
8) Wow! Did I just take the off ramp at 80 miles per hour?
9) I must get a clear bra before driving it too much more....
10) Damn, this car is worth it!

I love my 997S....

Even though my car will not be here till next week. But I know that’s exactly what is going to go through my head when I pick it up.

I traded a 5-month old 04 Targa in for my 997S on launch day. Apart from thinking OMG did I really do this and how much money I just dropped, I had a BIG SH** EATING GRIN ALL THE WAY HOME!!! (and I don't think it has stopped 11 months later!!!)

in keeping with the top ten list format:
1) i hope i don't stall in the parking lot since the last manual i drove was my previous 911 in '88
2) whoops, i can't believe i stalled in the parking lot, (i hope they didn't see that)
3)i hope the traffic is easy on the way home...(1.5 hrs in rush hour traffic)
4)i hope this lady in the old gremlin who's talking on the phone and smoking doesn't ram my brand new beautiful work of art in the rear
5)i'm home in one piece; the gates are closed, my baby is home safe and sound
6)wow this thing is beautiful!
7)i can't wait to take this out and really drive it
8)i deserve this and i will not feel guilty!
9)my kids think i walk on water!
10)should i tell my wife i just dropped $85k (90K after taxes and extras) on another porsche? nah, i can hide it in the barn!

I was thinking,

1) Sweet flippin' Jesus! Feel that shifter!
2) Damn good deal, just some more dough... and a brand new M3 in trade.
3) Crap, I should have gotten a better deal... those bastards.
4) Ah well, it attracts less attention than the M3. Sweet, I'm invisible.
5) Should've just bought the Cayenne Turbo and been done with it.
6) 4000 RPM for 2000 miles...what's 2000 miles away that I need to do?
7) This thing is a 6 cylinder?!
8) No XM Radio is gonna be tough.
9) F*@k the radio! Listen to that MOTOR!
10) Thank GOD I didn't marry that chick.

I was thinking , Damn I wish this was a Ferrari..........

I really was just praying not to stall it and get wiped out...Very fast street you enter onto from my dealer....

As I was driving I was just looking at the interior and saying, holy crap this is soooo much nicer than my 996!!!!!!

I sold my M3 cab in late May (2 months earlier) and was not sure what I wanted. Decided I would not be happy unless I went back to Porsche, so went in to the dealer expecting to purchase a 2002 used cab. Saw the 997 S Cab, confusion sets in, decided I would think about it and went back to the office.

Wife was at the office (came by to have a coffee with me), she sees my puzzled face so I proceed to tell her my dilema. She says "you just turned 40, you work hard, get the one you want".

Called back the dealer, agreed on a price with one condition....the car must be ready for me to pick up at the end of the day (long weekend starting the next day).

At around 6:00 pm I drive of the lot. After about 2 blocks I realize the add "There is no substitute" is exactly how I feel.

I was thinking it better not fr#$%king start raining on the way home, which it did. So I just washed it after it stopped. I was thinking holly sh$#%t I can't believe it is finally here and I only had to wait two months. I don't know how some of you poor bastards lasted as long as you did, I would have gone crazy. I was thinking, I can't believe I have to go home and watch the kids tonight so my wife can go out with her girl friends because I would be out driving this car all freaking night if not, except that it rained so that was a good thing. I was thinking, Man, I can't wait for tomorrow, which was today. I took the entire day off, drove most all day, put 200 miles on the car, went and got a massage and had my hair cut, life is good. Yea baby. Oh yea, "There is no substitute"

I was a little stunned. It was less than a week after the launch and I thought, ah what the heck I'll go take a look. Prior to the launch weekend(that a buddy coaxed me into at another dealer) I had absolutely no clue that I'd be owning a 911. The other dealer had one in stock that had my name on it. That "little look" turned into a purchase the following day. Damn, no looking back though.

1.) How insane will I look if I drive round and round the dealer lot for half an hour until my pulse drops back below 120?

2.) The blasted wheel/tire warranty doesn't cover curb shots....ACT COOL and don't curb the right rear on the first turn.

3.)The combo of new car smell & Porsche full leather should be regulated as a NARCOTIC.

4.) Shifter feel is sublime (yeah the stock shifter).

5.) Always wanted to see NEWFOUNDLAND-- round trip drive would catapult this jewel right past 2K break-in.....drool...oh sh#$, furgut I have wife & 2 kids.

MMD forgive my dramatic honesty but that day was un-fkn-forgetable!

When my wife and I were still starting out I told her that before I turn 30 I would own my first true SPORTS CAR…

January 05 I place my order for a 997S CAB the build date…March 2005 my 29th birthday.

April 22 8:00am sharp we were at the dealers and a nice man let us in before anybody else so I can check her out!

And from 8am to about 9am this was me!

I think the pic will tell more about how I felt…

Man, you guys are great. I'm preparing for the big day (my car's almost here) and this thread was fun and even a joy to read. ("interior smell should be a registered as a narcotic" ).

C'mon post YOUR "driving off the lot" story!
