Porsche should bring back the Speedster
I was just looking at the '89 and '94 Speedsters and was thinking that I would love for Porsche to bring back the Speedster. It should be based on the C2S or C4S (leaning towards this since it's wider). I think it would do well. And don't forget about the legendary history of Porsche making Speedsters starting from '54.
What do you guys think?
BTW, last year at the Rodeo Concours car show Jerry Seinfeld displayed his custom ordered 993 "Speedster" that was based on a C2S. It was silver/blk with sports seats and euro tail lights and it looked sick. The car was for sale too.
How cool is it that he can custom order cars from Porsche? For the first time in my life I'm so jealous.

It would be pretty cool if they brought it back. But the 997 definitely has a Speedster "look" versus a 996. But I am with you a true Speedster would be pretty cool.

I think the 997 is way too big for a Speedster - I think the Boxster is more appropriate...

But, in line with tradition, the Speedster has to be based on a Carrera.

I don't remember ever seeing a 356 Carrera Speedster. Are you sure you're not thinking of a Roadster? I thought the Speedsters were made for the American market from a pretty basic (lightweight, inexpensive and low-power) 356. The 356 Carreras were the expensive high-performance versions (often used for racing). I could easily be wrong and would love to see a photo if you find one...

I'm pretty sure. I've seen only 2 356 Carrera Speedsters for sale in my lifetime (yes, only 24 yrs). One was located here and the other in Spain. It is a rare car. Unfortunately, I don't have any pics right now or access to any. But I will try to search for you. From what I remember, the car looks just like a regular 356 Speedster but has "Carrera" written above "Speedster" on the sides and back. And I think the rims were different.
Maybe someone else knows more about it.

There is a 1957 Carrera GT Speedster for sale right now at European Collectibles in Costa Mesa, CA. The price is not listed on the website, but I know that they're asking over $300,000 for it.
Kinda makes my 1958 Carrera GT Replica look very inexpensive! Plus, you can actually drive mine. If you bought a $300k Speedster, it would become sculpture.

I'm a huge fan of the 911 Speedsters, and have come close to buying an '89 and '94. But I'm sure we won't see any more Speedster versions of the 911; as somebody else mentioned, the Boxster has sort of taken over that role: Two seats, soft-top, less expensive and lighter than a 911 coupe, but still 911 based. Of course the mid-engine and smaller displacement keep it from being a true replacement, but it's pretty darn close in terms of feel...more tossable and less of a GT than the 911 coupe.

Porsche should toss the Speedster drawings in the shredder along with the 4 door Carerra and listen to the people that buy their flagship car. We really NEED a convertible that leaks like a spagetti strainer and looks like a humpback whale.. YEAH!
