I did the same thing on mine, replaced them with leather. Porsche is still manufacturing them and they're about $350/side. Not sure what Exclusive option came in at price wise.

Classic 9 Leather carries this at what appears to be a better price point. my E check with a local leather shop and see what they can do.

Is there anything to watch out for when buying a spare panel off eBay? I need to do the spear and also replace the door card but want to keep my originals.

hardest part is finding a door panel in good condition if you want leather.

Regarding spear, you’re probably best buying them new due to how they’re attached to the door.

Add a small piece of foam tape over eash screw head before.reinstalling the door panel and it will prevent any metallic vibration sounds between the screw heads and the inner metal door skin.

Do you remember what size screws you used by any chance?

I don't remember the exact size, but you don't need it to be very long, maybe 1/4" will do. I bought them at home depot.

I replaced the spears on a previous 997 with CF ones. There are several really good YT videos on the procedure. The scariest part was melting off the plastic tabs. I don’t remember the screw size but you can search and find it. It will be short, like 1/4” and needs to be a button head or use a washer (like in the photo above)

You guessed it! I had a 2001 CBR600 F4i, which was also my first bike (in red/black).

Speedracer4fi-in looking at the first picture, the new leather on the door trim (spear or door handle trim) looks to be a shade lighter than the original leather. In the 2nd picture, the shade seems to be the exact same as the original. How does it look in person? I have installed some new leather in mine but there is shade difference in some areas. Thanks.

The new leather will always look a bit lighter than the seasoned leather. The difference is more in the aging "patina" of the older leather, usually from the amount of use, rather than the lightness of the color from the the new leather pieces. That's why the leather at your steering wheel, door handle, and the brake handle will look darker than the leather on your dash, or behind your seat.

I am attaching a few new picture of my leather door card (taken today) with the leather spear I installed 4-5 years ago. There is still a little difference in shade under well lit room, but the difference is gradually receding as time goes by. You can condition the new leather pieces a few times to speed up the aging process if you like.
