Actually I was referring to nighttime ambient lighting for the interior of our cars not led conversion of our existing lights like dome, door marker etc... I am referring to modern cars having a dim colored light in the footwells while driving at night... some have yellow, some red, some blue....https://www.carlightingdistrict.com/...ther%20options.

Our cars actually have it for the middle dash... there is a small led lamp behind the rear view mirror shining some light into the center console while driving... it gives off a bit of a more relaxed ambiance than total darkness...

I did the LED white exchange, very happy with the improved lighting

I also replace the lights in the Frunk and engine bay with LED, much easier to see.

Colored footwell lighting in a 997? Why not!

I have done this (whole car) as well as fog lights and running lights, except tail lights (tried it and don't like it) and engine bay (can't find the correct LED bulb). The one I tried had the wrong built in resistor, so got a burned out bulb error on the dash.

Which one worked for you for the engine bay ?

Whenever I think of a mod on my own cars dating back to the 90s, I always consider IF the mod came OEM in ANY market for that car. My first cars I modded heavily, this meant looking at the same car but different versions of it or JDM versus USDM options. I do the same with my Porsche. The car stays clean that way and never in the Autozone. lol.

Surprisingly hot take, @slicky rick, but I think it'd look great. There's research that shows that a low-brightness colored - specifically red or red-orange - ambient light does make nighttime driving easier and less straining on the eyes. That's one of the reasons it's been included by more modern cars over the past ~15 years or so. If I'm remembering the papers I read, blue and white instrument cluster lights are most strenuous on the eyes, red and orange are least. I believe this carries over to ambient lighting as well, but it's been about a decade since I read about it.

If you go for it, I definitely want to see the results of your labor.

Tough crowd. Do what you like! I tend to turn down the dash lights quite a bit so adding light isn't what I think about first. But my wife's BMW has nice ambient lighting and I enjoy the look but really never notice it while driving. I do think it could look good in the 997 especially with the everything black interiors that most of us have - especially a low red light. It already feels like a spaceship, why not make it look like one.

AND you should add matching underglow to the outside so it looks like you're flying!! Xzibit would be proud.

Do you have a pic of your interior lighting post-LED install?

This is cool. I'm a 6000K guy for headlights and such - just think it brightens the road up so much better. My Bi-Xenons in my 997s, my HIDs in my 928s, and my LEDs in my 944 have 6000k bulbs in them.
