Problem with Bilstein B16’s
Hi All,
I recently replaced the 2006 Bilstein coil overs that were on my 2006 C2S with new Bilstein B16 damptronics all the way around. I also replaced the front and rear mounts etc. with new OEM ones. Since the new coil overs went in, I’m getting spring binding especially on low speed turns. I’ve read some posts suggesting this is common with coil overs on these cars, but my previous set wasn’t making any noise. Has anyone else experienced this and is there anything that I can do to cure it? I would prefer. It to have to put in $600 camber plates for a car that will only be street drive .

My front B16 Damps do as well. I plan on getting a spring seat bearing kit from Elephant Racing for each.

You need thrist bearings on the spring perches. Recent thread on here (like last week) discussing the exact same thing.

Thanks for the heads up on the other discussion. Found this thread

and am planning to order the SKF bearings and washers discussed there and see what happens, weird that some people get noise with theirs and some don’t though. Would love to understand that better.

I had a set of B16s installed a couple weeks ago. I used Swift Thrust Sheets instead of thrust bearings and I don’t have any spring binding issues. Tarret recommended them because they require no maintenance.

I just finished a few weeks of trouble shooting this. Search Amazon for AXK6085 Thrust Needle Roller Bearings. Place these just under the top spring, right above the spring perch. It was the only thing that solved the spring bind. I tried several different things.

What size did you get?

I originally planned to use SKF bearings but was concerned about the corrosion as well.
They are 60mm.

I found these old threads.
I am curious if the B16 PSS sold today have the problems described.
The installation in the FCP EURO video looks very simple and there appears to be a smooth ring that is added before the base mount.
Has the configuration today of B16 changed/upgraded?https://rennlist.com/forums/997-foru...ein-b16is.html

My B16’ are brand new 2023 units and I actually followed the FCP euro diy video when I did them. It is actually a really straightforward job. But I’m struggling with the solution of thrust bearings on the spring perch. There is already a brand new factory bearing at the top of the assembly that should enable it to turn with the wheel. It seems to me that installing a second bearing at the bottom of the spring is a bit of a band aid solution. I need someone with more technical expertise to help me understand why the upper bearing isn’t allowing the spring to turn as it would with a stock set up? Do I not have enough pre-load on my coil overs to keep the bottom of the spring seated and force the upper bearing to turn?

B16 Dsmptronics binding
The spring is binding with the mount and then releasing. It can't freely rotate so it twists ip a little then releases eith a snsp.
You need friction plates or needle bearings. I have 70mm rings from Swift Springs on my 09 C4S B16 Damptronics.
