DIY: Pcm 3.0 lcd screen replacement
Firstly, shout out to waterpanda for tips in this diy! Thanks brother..
This is how my lcd screen looked like https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...6602c1849a.jpg everything worked but it looked awful!! So I decided to take matters into.mynown hands and ordered a screen from Alibaba.. cost was around $130. there are instructions all over on how to remove the pcm 3.0.. there are also youtube instructions on how to install apple car play on pcm 3.0.. follow yhese instructions to dismantle the pcm3.0... the differences are: 1. there are 3 major parts to the pcm 3.0 https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...321ac0e2f1.jpg Remove all the white ribbon cables: 1 for the upper portion and 2 for the front face plate 2. Remove the 2 orange connectors from the main part. So in order to remove the faceplate a total of 4 connectors were removed 3. Remove all screws on the faceplate https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...b075ac3221.jpg Also remove the cable with the orange connector on the right of the picture above.. |
Step 4 Remove all the screws on the face plate. Also release the connector with the pink and white wire from the metal plate.. this is how the face plate looks after removing the metal.plate..
https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...a5ada41d16.jpg step5. Remove the ribbon wire as seen on the lower left side of the picture.. it's colored brownish... to remove lift the bottom portion to clear the socket and simply pull upward as in the picture.. there are 2 indentations in the ribbon where you can insert a tweezer of sorts to help pull the connector out. There are no other locks. step 6. Lift out the lcd screen and transfer the white ribbon cable to the new lcd screen! step 7. Assembly is reverse procedure. Remember to install the brown ribbon cable... tips when assembling make sure the cables are routed through the proper holes! The cable with the orange connector will get pinched if you are careless when reassembling... reinstall the cable that has the orange connector on the side. the result is.... https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...86022c74c4.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...155efd21e5.jpg Everything is like new again and all working!! Resolution
Is a higher resolution screen available I wonder? This DIY could be a game changer!
|
This is a great resource for others thinking about doing the same. Is the replacement screen any glossier than the old? Also is it still resistive technology (or upgraded to capacitive?) Link please :)

Any hint to find the new screen on Alibaba? Would be very helpful! Thank you!
|
Will try to retrieve... that order has been quite a while back... although I remember that it was not available for a time and I just kept watch... then when it suddenly appeared available, I grabbed it...
|
Any chance that you will find the screen type for us after such a long time?
cheers Andreas |
