Color change 😳
I’m sure lots of you guys have already been down this road it’s nothing special. A few people asked for a thread from me on this little project so I guess I’ll share my experience with you all, hope it’s not boring lol.
The story is I have a 997.2 3.6 6MT with kind of crap black paint, straight body but faded on the roof and sun roof panel. I could have easily had the roof sprayed but the hood also has lots of chips in it. Plus I need my aero kit painted😁. Other spots are not perfect and with a black car that just sucks. I’m not a fan of black cars anyway. 🤷🏻♂️
I talked to some paint guys and it just so happens the shop basically across the road from my neighborhood was the one I liked, not the cheapest but I’m not trying to penny pinch such an important project. These guys are BMW specialists and do a lot of CLS replicas with carbon roof swaps, perfect because I hate sunroofs and I’d been shopping solid roof skins and even tho a carbon roof on a 997 isn’t the normal thing to do I just can’t not do it if I’m replacing the skin anyway.
I bought a new aero kit bumper .1 from Pelican parts I could not find a .2 bummer. But it’s ok because I had Getty build me a .1 rear wing (can’t get originals) because it’s my all time favorite 997 wing. I recently ordered a carbon blade to replace the glass one because I think it will look awesome with the carbon roof. They build very nice parts and are cool to deal with.
I think I’ve sorted the car pretty well besides the paint, JRZ pro 3 suspension, full RSS suspension arm set, RSS motor mounts (soft setting), Giro disc big brake two piece front and rear, Numeric shifter, Gundo hack, Recaro pole positions, rear cage, GT3 alcantera shifter and wheel, Brixton forged wheels, titanium studs and nuts, cup 2 tires. Morimoto headlights and whatever I’m forgetting lol. It’s now how I want a performance car to work, stock wasn’t good enough, felt like a camry.
So I’ll bet you are wondering what the heck color would be cool enough to do all this paint work for? My favorite PTS color Oslo blue. The paint shop sprayed a sample for me and hell yes I love it.
So here we go!!

Thank you guys for the compliments on how it came out, I’m super happy with it.
I’ll get started on the interior today. I’ll be redoing it all to a mixture of extended leather and alcantera. I’m on the hunt for a leather dash with light colored stitching. And door panels to match. The old stuff will have to do for now. Although I really like those carbon panels in the light weight street 997 thread 🤷🏻♂️

Full window out and disassembled paint job. They are finishing up a couple cars but the shop has both my bumpers my rear deck and my hood sanded and ready for primer .My cage, mirrors, door handles and brake light panel are ready to go next. Today I pulled the side glass, swapped wheels pulled the headliner and sunroof (28lb) disassembled the doors, rear interior, most of the rest of the interior is out. I’m leaving the carpet and dash. Pulled the trim around the windows, replacing with new. I don’t know why they have to rivet those pieces. And gave the disassembled car a bath. Looks like a theft recovery lol.

Next up is having the front and rear windows pulled, I’ve done that but nowadays I’d rather just pay somebody. Doing a new front windshield.
Might be slow for a little but I’ll try and keep you guys updated. I’d appreciate hearing anybody else’s experience with 997 color changes. Thanks for reading this long rant

So what colour? I love the bold blues but they have almost become a cliche. Mine is aqua blue metallic and it seems tasteful these days. Personally I'd go yellow, black wheels....can't beat it.

Awesome - looking forward to seeing the final result. You'll save a fortune on the paint job by doing the disassembly yourself. That's what I did as well. You've also started with the best color combination for a color change because not respraying the engine bay, it will just look dark instead of showing a 2nd color that stands out. Also, if you miss a tiny corner where a door seal is or something it just blends into the black interiror.
We bought a black over black 997 and Cayenne Turbo S for the 2 color changes we planned for them as part of the project.
Before & After (wife's car) in pink pearl
Cayenne Before
After - Misha Widebody in Pearl White with PCCBs

That's quite a vehicle, great set up and the new color is going to pop!
With everything else done so well, I'd replace those Recaros with a proper set of Porsche carbon buckets, that would be the icing on the cake

I’m not a fan of my Recaros either but I’m a sucker for weight loss so I need a better solution that’s light also.
