The 997 doesn't necessarily need to look like the 993. I just think a 911 needs to have more character than it currently has, the 996 is just a little bland for my taste, save for a GT3. So referring to the 997 as 993-esque just give me a mental picture of adding that missing character.

I like the tweak to the front.
The rear needs some improvement, but it's basically right, maybe just a bit taller stripe.
Given the 996 C4S, it's not hard to imagine Porsche offering a similar look in the 997 during its (probably short) life.

you are right about the strip across the back - I was thinking the same thing!
Looks 'right' in your picture

Nice redo! All that left is getting rid of those sloppy 996 overhangs and it's perfect....

The 997 rear end definitly looks too high. I agree - lower lights and going back to the tailstrip would be nice.

The strip would have been kinda very very cool

....also if the 996 had these 997 headlights and the 997 had the new 996 (not the fried egg ones) headlights I'm sure everone would be saying they were cool and helped to prevent it from looking like a beetle.

If the 996 had 993 headlights and the 997 had headlights that resembled the Boxster, Porsche would have Chris Bangle working in their design team ... :|

I think Porsche listened to market and responded appropriately with an up-scale cabin, better materials, more distinctive body lines and 911 headlights. Porsche and the Beetle go back to the beginning of time (as far as I'm concerned) and I think it's fair to say that the 911 shape, from headlights to silohuette is an icon and Porsche has made a good attempt to recreate it in a modern form. I've never been really happy with the 996, but the more I look at the 997 and the more I learn about it, the happier I feel about it.

By the way, fried eggs have a lot of cholesterol -- try oatmeal or bran cereal.
