PCM 3.0 Version Update to 1.4 and 2.X - Questions
2009 C2S 183K miles
This post is relevant to 997.2 (2009 and newer) cars. I know this does not update maps, only system software
I have an early build 2009 with Version "V?". I understand this to be the original PCM 3.0 system software version.
Questions:
- Does anyone have a 1.4 disc they can forward to me? An ISO I can pick up? I can get the latest version WKD-952-900-16 (I think it is the latest and last version, the 16 is the last sequence number) from various dealers for about $10 including shipping... but it is version 2.X.
- Does anyone know the part number for the 1.4 disk?
- I read someplace that I cannot update to any version 2.X without first going to 1.4..... true?
- Does anyone know what the various versions get me? Why is there a version 2.X and not a typical .X update. Changing the version number usually implies a significant change to software..
Why I want to upgrade: I have a really annoying bug where my preferences in maps are lost. Points of Interest (POIs) keep re-appearing after I select them off. No biggie, but a clear bug that has annoyed the heck out of me for years. Now that I moved my residence, I use these maps quite a bit.
Peace

Anthony from 9xxresearch.com lives in Atlanta. He has everything you need, and an interest in anything Porsche. I'd suggest you contact him. Tell him I sent you and that I said he should do a favor for you. Really, do that.

You may not be able to get to 2.XX as for 2009/2010 cars 1.47 is the maximum you can get to. Porsche made a hardware change in the PCM for 2011 and the hardware is different.
The update disks have 1.47 on them as well as 2.XX (depending on version).
I have a couple of these disks -13 (2011) and -16 (2014) - PM me and we can work something out.
If you run the upgrade you may lose the map data and be stuck with upgrading maps as well - this will be a trip to the dealer as far as looking into the files on the disks you can see the required Nav Database is defined as 3.0.0 for the 1.47 update.

Thanx guys... pursuing both options. I contacted Porsche Parts Now and they are out of stock and do not have any ETA for the disk.

I had my maps updated in July to the latest maps for PCM 3.0. The dealer had to update the PCM to V2.24 prior to installing the 2019 maps.

If you have the "V" version you can upgrade to 1.47 just by putting in the upgrade disk. I believe it's also possible to upgrade to the 2.x software, but this requires new maps (and dealer coding with the maps). I dunno what happens if you upgrade without the maps: if it doesn't work at all or if you just lose the nav functionality.
There were a bunch of different hardware and software versions over the years and it can be confusing. I found this doc from Porsche that explains some of the details:

Hey Bruce, did you ever upgrade your PCM? I also have an early 09 model with the V? firmware and would like to get up to 1.47 so I can get aux volume control for an upcoming Carplay addition.

Why not just have the maps updated via a dealer? The PCM will have to be updated prior to map install anyways. I believe the total expense was around $600+/-. It was well worth it in my opinion because the maps were significantly updated. It brought the overall design up to today’s standards.

Gotcha. My dealership in Knoxville had no qualms about doing it. My service advisor did inform me that they ran into an issue with uploading the updated PCM software to the car, but they called PCNA and allegedly it was easily resolved. The new maps uploaded perfectly afterwards too.

I had the dealer give me the 1.47 update on my 2010 and it did NOT confer aux volume control. Pretty disappointing and I'm not sure now what to try next. FWIW I bought the CD from Pelican and it didn't do anything (it tried to update and then gave an error, I posted the details to the other P car forum).
