I'm beginning to like it
Looked at the recently posted pics of the 997 today and (to repeat stuff I've said in other posts) I like it. Seems like they tried to do most of the right things (as defined by me, anyway). Headlights, rear fenders, front end treatment. Don't know about the interior. I think I saw one and it had the Cayenne steering wheel. That wheel is fine in the SUV but I don't want it in any 911.
Don't get me wrong, My current fantasy is a used GT-3 in a couple of years. I'm not yearning for a 997. But I think they did OK-better than I thought they were going to do. Perhaps some of the engine problems will be addressed but I think the engine platform is going to 996 based. Perhaps with no rms issues? But still the 996 platorm as opposed to the dry sump config used in the GT-3. etc.
I will be keeping my 993. And hopefully adding a GT-3 in two years or so.

the engine will remain the M96 (996/986) series, the displacement will be upped as will the horsepower. (no one knows how much exactly HP/displacement)
but it seems at least 3.8L 350~ hp for the C2
and 370-380 for the C2S
and the turbo's HP figure will start with a 5 for sure.

the one problem i see with the 996 is that it appears very "normal" in the 3/4 front shots. aka, it looks (or should i say the copycat cars look like it) the nissan 350z or whatever, the infiniti g35? coupe, etc.
in other words, the front end doesnt scream "porsche", which was always my problem with the 996s, it just seems very status quo from the front. but still this shot:

screams p-car without a doubt. i would have liked to see more front end work done (the head lights are a welcome "step back") to really set the porsche away from all other cars again, but it does look much better than the 996.
