Default 997 coupe and weight gain

Does anyone know how much heavier its going to be compared to the 996. The 996 coupe was actually lighter than the 993 coupe. I really have a problem with sports cars when they start gaining weight. I have a 996 C2, boxster S and GT3. I think even they should have been a couple of hundred pounds lighter. But I understand that street cars need some standards of safety equipment and of course luxury equipment. The 3000 +/- 100 lbs is as much as I can tolerate a sports car weighing. A GT/Sedan is another story. I hope the 997/998 stay within these weight parameters.

It's up to like 3080lbs from 3020 I believe.

I agree, a sports car that gains weight is a very bad thing. Hopefully the 998 will be lighter.

When the 99 996 came out, it was slightly lighter than the 993, but over the years the 996 has put on weight so that now I believe an 04 996 is heavier than a narrow-body 993...

I fear that the 998 will be significantly more powerful AND heavier than the 997. I think the Boxster Coupe is going to be the lightweight option in the lineup.

Consider that 997 will come with bigger brakes, wider body, bigger consoles and a lot of gizmos. 60 lbs more is very conservative.

3300+ lbs sound more realistic.

The 3020 lbs for the 996 was for a 17" wheels model. 997 will be available with 18" or bigger wheels.

I really hope it doesn't get that heavy. 3100lbs, give or take, is heavy enough for a 'pure' sports car in my books.

The 911 keeps getting bigger and heavier. Chevrolet is taking the opposite approach with the C6 Corvette; it's getting smaller (not to mention a more powerful engine).

Porsche needs to put all of its cars on a diet. And a Boxster coupe (or Club Sport edition) would be great. Consider all the 996 variants; the Boxster is a grossly underdeveloped platform.

What about Lambos ? Arent the big boys like 2 tons or so? Those don't seem to have a problem hauling their weight around. A lighter weight 911 would be fun though. And i still like the shorter wheel base from the old cars.

Um...
Lambos actually suck on the track...

Wasn't until the Gallardo and Murcielago you got some track skill.

Even the GT version of the Diablo wasn't that good.

Top Gear had the Gallardo do a track run of their test track, and it finished 1 sec ahead of a GT3, and then you got 120bhp more...

Yeah, Lambo have never been big racers anyways. Always more of sick street cars. Funny though, Audi has the right idea- The new Murci-GTR weighs less than a 951 apparently. Private teams are gaining factory support, im curious to see how they do.
