Liqui Moly and Ceratec - your experience?

Mr. Navarro of LN seems to like Ceratec but is worried about "additive clash" with say Mobil 1 A40 European Formula.

Do you have experience with Ceratec and or LiquiMoly oils in your Porsche? What do you think?
Which A40 Liqui Moly oil do you use? Their website lists 9 products that are A40 (Porsche compliant). https://products.liqui-moly.com/oils...ls_recoms=1496

Liqui Moly 5w40 is excellent oil for the money and is the only oil I use in my 997 as recommended by the previous owner. Ceratec on the other hand I have read many articles on and I was considering using it at one point and my understanding is this.

Most people who have used it claim it does work, the only reason I did not decide to use it was there were articles claiming that it may affect sensors and the catalytic converters (not sure if this was factual) but ultimately I decided that as long as I change my oil every 5K and greatly reducing the accumulation of contaminated oil this would contribute much more to engine longevity than any oil additive. The choice is yours ...

I called the Liqui Moly Customer Service to ask the differences between Cera Tec and the 2009 Anti-Friction Oil Treatment and they transferred me to Mr. Stefan Braun, Application Specialist, direct number 714-913-3928. Very nice, very helpful. He can and will answer any and all questions. Mr. Braun, recommended the Cera Tec for the 997. I'll update once I have some results to report.

I run motul xcess with Liqui moly MoS2 in my c2s. MoS2 is just MoS2 suspended in Esther so it cannot clash.

The motor runs noticeably quieter with the MoS2 compared to just xcess alone. Oil pressure and temps are great.

2010 C4S PDK with 122K miles.

The last 87K miles under my stewardship have seen 5K mile oil changes using Mobil One 0-40 ... 7.5 quarts out and 7.5 quarts in at each change with no additions in between changes. This kept my level at the bottom bar (which helps explain why others change larger quantities).

This last change I put in a 16 ounce can of LiquiMoly MoS2 (yes, this is less than the instructions state).

Before doing that I tested the solid lubricant claims ...

1. Mix dark colored MoS2 with light colored oil and shake. There is an initial mix followed by separation.

2. Heat and repeat. Same results.

I don't believe there will be an additive mix problem. The MoS2 does not appear to mix but rather it simply suspends within the oil.

Initial results ...

1. I won't speak to power.

2. The idle varies less, although it never varied much.

3. Gas mileage appears to be up 10% but I'm not taking this to the bank since this is a noisy measurenent and the Spring temperature, change from winter blend to summer blend, and driving conditions vary.

4. Average oil temperatures have dropped around 15F. This appears to be real and could be for a few reasons ...

4A. I am running an extra 16 ounces of lubricating fluid (7.5 quarts of oil plus the MoS2). Does this make a difference?

4B. Fill in your own thoughts here.

5. For the first time I'm seeing the cooling system regulate oil temperature. During 70 to 80 mph freeway driving at 70F ambient the temperature reaches 190 and then drops to 180 and oscillates between these points. In the past that value would have been 205F and steady.

I also put MoS2 in Pam's GLA 45 AMG and have noticed the gas mileage appears to be up 10% but see 3 above. The oil temperature in her car has always been stable (the car has what appears to be a better designed cooling system) holding steady at all loads and temperatures including bursts to 140 mph on the Autobahn (speed limited by traffic and slow cars exhibiting no lane discipline) or extended low gear high rpm sprints through the Alps. Oil temperature does not appear to vary with ambient either. So oil temperature is a meaningless data point for this car. Likewise I won't guess on power increase. But the mpg seems positive.

I've got MoS2 in the F250 (3 oil changes one day, went for broke with the additive!!!) but I've got nothing to report there (the $100 limit on a gas fill leaves the tank part empty so calculating mpg doesn't happen, but the V10 generally yields 12 to 13 mpg). I have been using the truck to carry house remodelling loads up to 3K pounds but over short hauls and temperature doesn't indicate anything here (again the cooling system seems much better on this truck than on the 997).

Bottom line(s) ...

1. I think the MoS2 is working. The 997 oil temperature appears to be indicative.

2. I don't think there will be any negative impacts.

3. But I'm new to the product.

I use Liqui Moly Leichtlauf High Tech 5w40 and have been happy with it.

This is getting confusing- changing the oil used to be simple. Currently using Motul Excess 5w - 40 - what else, if anything, do I add - keep it simple. I burn no oil, no excessive soot or noises 2005 3.6 34k miles

That's what my mechanic uses as well.

Liquimoly's press release states:

"Fuel and combustion residues get into the oil circuit and cause sedimentation which slows the engine down."

If that doesn't scream marketing wank, I'm not sure what does.

Every time I see a pic someone posts of their sumps...... regardless of the miles, they are bright, shiny, new.... I wonder where in the heck is the sludge?

FWIW, have used this combo for many years in water-cooled P-cars and am not displeased.

Ive used LM Leightlauff 5w-40 and after 3500 miles had a UOA, it had higher wear metals(aluminum and silicon) than M1-0w-40, Castrol 0w-40 and Motul 8100 5w-40, and have went back to Castrol. I personally don't think its any better than these three especially given its cost. Theres just no data to prove these boutique oils are any better than the offerings from Mobil/Castrol. LM also has no moly as its additive for protection, unlike the others, seems that they package the moly in the ceratec..
