Identify “red calipers”

I have a C4 (2009) which has red calipers on it; previous owner said the car came with them, but I don’t see them listed on the window sticker.
My undertaking is only S models had red calipers...

How can I confirm if they’re real red calipers or the black ones painted?
Need to order brake pads.

Real ones allow you to slide the pads in from the back side by just removing a pin.

They look repainted in red. Factory red brakes have white PORSCHE lettering.

Doesn’t the C4 come from the factory with silver calipers? Or did that stop with the 996 series?

Repainted. C2 and C4s are silver with a black face. And the lettering should be white. Looks like aftermarket wheels so probably swapped them both at some point. Not a biggie. I repainted mine. The black on the base model calipers tends to fade and look like ****.

Biggest questions:

1 - does the prior owner know that and just not being honest with you, or is he just a dummy and bought it that way

2 - I have a 997.1 so not as familiar with the .2 caliper, but that front caliper looks different than mine. Almost looks like an aftermarket brembo big brake kit. Maybe some of the .2 guys can chime in.

Those are stock 997.2 C2/C4 front calipers that have been painted.

Thumbup ;-)

The same, my base C2 had pretty messed up calipers, painted them red also (long job to full jack, clean, protect, paint lots of coats, dry, unprotect sticker, mount wheels, unjack).

Moreover than the color of lettering, you see on second picture that letters are stickers (and on OEM painted, it is in the paint as you cannot feel them with your hand).

Not a bumer but interesting to know if previous owner knows that.

It was my understanding that the red calipers on the S models were different ( aside from color) than the black calipers found on the base models. The base models also had an option to have the same base calipers painted red from the factory ( but they were still the same base calipers).

I agree that they're stock C2 calipers that have been painted. The big tell is that the caliper has to be removed to access the pads on a base car. S calipers allow you to access the pads from the top, like bread in a toaster.

Also, IIRC, the bolts that hold the two halves of the caliper together are supposed to be painted the same color as the rest of the caliper, as the caliper is painted after it is assembled.
