997.1 Update - 40k milestone
It has been a while since I last posted so I just wanted to give an update on my 997.1 C2 6MT that I purchased in August of 2017 with 26k miles on it. After driving it daily (more than ever since I moved to Miami), I have finally reached 40k miles. After all this time, I can honestly say that Xpel and ceramic are essential considering the fact that my car is looking better than ever and the front of my car is in mint condition despite the many high speed road trips that the car has been on. My biggest negative about this car is that maintenance is definitely not cheap when you are OCD about everything being perfect on the car. Since I am trying to keep this car for many years to come, I feel that my 3,000 mile oil changes and preventative maintenance is the best way to preserve the car and keep it running in optimal condition. Since I do not plan on selling the car, I was eager to modify it without taking away from the OEM look. In addition to the tubi exhaust and helmholz resonator cap that was installed months ago, I just had a numeric shifter + cables installed while my brakes were being replaced (hawk pads on OEM rotors for less dust) which made an incredible difference when it comes to how the car shifts and even how it sounds when the windows are up (new cables are emitting all types of awesome noises into the cabin). While it is an expensive upgrade, I don't think there is a better SSK substitute. On top of regular + preventative maintenance / mods, I've replaced the worn AC control buttons, the Bose speakers (with a brand new Bose system), and my auto dimming rear view mirror that developed a fluid leak. My car is feeling/sounding/looking better than ever and truly in it's element here in Miami. Next on the list will be new tires as my pilot sport A/S tires are getting low in the rear and all season tires are useless in Florida. Looking into Pilot Sport 4 tires and while i'm at it, I am increasing my rear tire size to 295-35-18 from 285-40-18 for a more aggressive stance. Aside from that, I have my eyes set on a 4.0 upgrade sometime in the next 25k miles so there isn't too much I want to do mod wise until that is done. I thank Project Dora (997 4.0 upgrade here on the forums) for the inspiration. :thumbsup:

Congrats. I suspect that even the posters that have issues can say that the good has outweighed the bad. Put away a couple grand a year for when the day comes. It will.

I too like keeping up with the maintenance. I’m right behind you at 39,860 miles on my Black on Black 09 C2S.

Awesome! Im coming up on 30k miles of daily driving (70k miles total) and echo your comments. The car is in way better cosmetic and mechanical shape than when I bought it. Maintenance costs are reasonable since I do all the work myself but it still adds up. The first year was the most with mods, a clutch and new tires. The last year has been pretty uneventful. One set of rear tires a maybe $150 in parts over 4-5 months. I've been meaning to do an update on my running costs and will publish soon.
Only thing I regret is not getting the clear bra after my bumper and hood was resprayed ~20k miles ago. Ive got 2-3 small chips in the hood and 1 in the bumper since then. Im the only person that would notice them, but anyway. If you have a C2 like me I think the absolute must have mod is putting Eibachs and 15mm spacers on it if you already haven't. That totally transformed the look of my car and everyone compliments the stance. |

They improved handling too. I found the stock C2 springs too hard driving around town and too soft at higher speeds. If I hit any bumps in a high speed turn I would get what I could only describe as "ass-wag". It was unsettling.
The Eibachs are progressive so a little less harsh at low speeds and it corners on rails at higher speed. Really happy with them. You do need to replace a four strut mounts when installing. If they have some miles on them already the Eibachs will expedite their demise. It sucks having to pull the strut off again to replace. |
