New to the forum and wanted to say hello and thank you in advance. Had a 2007 Cayman S "Sold" Just got a 2007 997.1 with 80k on it. Came factory with the Aero Kit and the Wood stuff "Mez...." something Only problem is that its a Auto "tip" Doug https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...72e29db396.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...5e28f51718.jpg |
if you do lot of city driving you will learn to love that tip.

Congrats, tiptronic is not a problem, it is just not very well matched with a 911... I was initially looking for a 997.1 with a tip since my wife insisted on an auto tranny. The mis-match is what I found when test driving a few tips. A 997.2 was ruled out because of the failure rate of a PDK, and 997.2 with stick shift were way too rare to hold-on.
So I was able to convince my wife that we should get a manual tranny in a 2007 997.1 and while doing so, save a good 10-15 Grands on the purchase price . I prefered risking the 1-2% failure rate of the ims on a 2006-2008, vs the 15% failure rate of PDKs..... So all in all, I am certain you'll get used to the tip real quick and enjoy your new 911 for years to come.👍 So congrats and welcome. And I love the aero kit. Cheers. |
Thanks all, I do city drive daily, so not bad but coming from a stick it's an adjustment. Keep wanting to slam down a gear and the shifter doesn't move.

Attractive car. The wood is Makassar. Very pretty in moderation. It can be easily overdone.
|
I only have steering wheel, shift knob, e-brake and cup holder cover.

Thinking about shifting over to all carbon fiber but not sure if it will go with the grey full leather.

And fwiw, apparently if you have sport chrono like you do, the tiptronic is a completely different beast than without it. And all 3 tips I tried weren't equiped with it so I wouldn't know. |
Interesting, didn't realize the tip would be different because of the sport chrono.
|
Welcome. I really like my tip. Shift in manual mode when I feel like it. Rewrap that steering wheel. One of my favorite mods.

Welcome -- are you in HNL? Noticed the Kakaako skyline behind your 997.

Great looking car. Love the Aero Kit and welcome to 997 ownership!
Dont sweat the Tip. Its near bullet proof and no clutches to replace. I have a 2006 C2S Tip with Sport Chrono Plus. Hit the Sport button, then turn off PASM to the left of Sport (no need for hard suspension) and try it in both Auto and Manual. It really works better. Better throttle response and shifting is much sharper especially while accelerating. |

May want to check this more carefully. While anything that works can fail the PDK has been pretty bullet proof. More like .15% rather than 100 times that.
Check anywhere europe or here and read for yourself, mevermind me. Sole reason why I don't own a 997.2 with PDK, otherwise that would be the Targa that is sitting in my garage, not a 997.1 with 6spd. You don't have to wander too far, there is a thread on that very subject on this here site...... but this is off subject. The goal here is to congratulate the new owner and wish him luck by telling him he is wrong to think the tip is the only thing wrong with his new to him 911. Not only it isn't wrong, but it is the most reliable auto tranny by far. |
