05 997 C2 Input
Looking at purchasing an 05 997 C2 with manual trans and 72K miles. Car has a clean service history and no known accidents. This would be my first Porsche and a daily driver for the summer months in Chicago. Dealer is asking $31K so would love some input from the group on things I should consider. Was hoping to pick up a 06-08 with lower miles but haven't had much luck in my price range. Any input is appreciated, Thanks!

Expanding your search out of state could broaden your options on the 06-08s. I would think you could find a similar mileage non-S for low 30s. If it's not at a prestigious dealership, I would still get a PPI. If you're limiting your search to dealerships due to financing options, consider getting a personal loan instead and shopping private party.

I've been eyeballing 996 / 997 in a 500 mile radius from my area in So Cal for the last 3 weeks. There are tons of 997 for under $30k around the mileage you state, although anything under 80k miles is definitely the give/take point under that price point. 2005 definitely fetch the lowest market value of all 997, but 2006 is not far off and you don't really have to worry about IMS then (another topic). $31k seems way high unless they are willing to come down several thousand. The best 2005 deal is a mint Silver C2 with 60k miles (private party) in Arizona for $28k. The owner has a sheepskin seat cover and a HORRENDOUS "bike handlebar grip" wrap on the steering wheel if that tells you anything about the way they drove it.
There is another minty C2 with 62.5k miles listed at $30k private party as well. Both appear to be of equal spec and condition. I'd keep looking if I were you unless you got some other crazy perks. Just my opinion.

Find yesterday's post by TheBruce in a thread about a 150k mile 05 launch edition car, as that will give you a thorough checklist of what to be on the lookout for when shopping for a 997.1.
Really, that post should be a sticky.

Im also considering a 08 C2 with 45K miles for a bit more money. The seller has been closed lip on history so hoping to see the car tomorrow and potentially line up a PPI.

Sport Chrono and GT2 wing. Looking at it today so hopefully it’s clean and I can get a PPI set up next week.
