Default Looking at engine builders for the 997

Might have a snapped timing chain or tensioner - still waiting to hear back. Preparing for the worst.

So who are some of the reputable engine builders preferably in the South/SE that are decent with Porsche?

Interested to hear recommendations, reviews and or experiences.

I had my bore scored motor rebuilt by EBS Racing in Reno last year. They shipped the cases to LN Engineering and I did a 4.0 conversion. I was very happy with the work and the car runs great. They arranged pick up of the engine and shipping back.

Don Weaver at EBS was a great resource. I’m not affiliated, but I am a happy customer. PM me if you need more info.

Nice! I personally would like to keep it 3.8 and maybe a few weak links addressed.

This is an interesting option:

15k includes re-sleeved cylinders....

Default EBS in Reno did my engine as well.

EBS in Reno did my engine as well. I've got about 8k since the rebuild and it's very reliable.

I had Vision Motorsports in Cali do mine (kept it 3.6) when my crankshaft broke. they've been at it for decades. - IMS upgrade, knife edged crank, ported&polished heads, more oil capacity, among other things. the rebuild itself cost $13.1k, at 600 shipping each way, then whatever cost to remove and reinstall the engine. Dwaine(can never spell it right) claimed over the phone a probable increase of +60 HP, have not had a chance to confirm though. very happy with the engine. definitely faster than stock now, and my first 10k mi have been trouble free with excellent oil readings from blackstone. I am kind of regretting not going for the 4.0 but you live and learn. turnaround time was about 3 months total

Another thumbs up for Vision Motorsports. They built my motor into a 4.2L. It's an absolute beast. Just a great experience from beginning to end.

Not sure what else to say. As for the car, I've put about 1k miles since the rebuild and haven't had a single issue. It really pulls really hard in the midrange. So much so that I've had to stiffen my rear sway bar to compensate for the additional squat on corner exit. I run KW V3s and a GT2 rear sway bar now at full stiff. I still run the stock intake and exhaust. There are definitely huge gains to be had once I open them up.

As for Vision, Dwain and Steve are great. They patiently answered all my questions and didn't try to pressure or upsell me on anything unnecessary. The rebuild came in under budget and was turned around in about 2.5 months (including the Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years holidays).

Feel free to PM me with specific questions.

Broken crank? First I've heard of this in a (assuming) street car. Could you share a bit about how that happened?

Nick, this sucks. Keep us posted. What happened when it failed? Did you ever upgrade the IMS bearing on this launch car?
