Default What do you think of this car, Pluses and minuses for buying

I was looking for a blue 911, and came across this 2005 3.6L RWD 911 Carrrra for about 23k. Was interested in getting other's opinions if I should give this car a buy. It looks fairly clean some minor bumper damage and busted aftermarket radio, but otherwise runs decent.

I can afford a bit newer model, but I always wanted a 911 when I was a kiddo at dealerships and such I'd sit in them in the late 80s and early 90s. Anyone have access to in depth vehicle history / carfax. Bit curious what the dealership paid for the car at auction, and want to know if any thing I should specifically look at or ask about prior to buying it given that I know very little about cars in general. I basically want the car to drive around and have some fun, and to start learning about Porsche and maybe do some of the minor maintenance myself.

So if anyone can do me a favor and look up the VIN. The VIN is : WP0CA29935S650072

Also, anyone know what specific model carseat can fit in this, or they all do? I have a Chico evenflow will that fit?

Do a search on bore scoring and IMS bearing issues so you can be well educated and do not buy a car without a thorough PPI from a place that is independent of the selling place.

Looks like a 996 model cab. Might get some better info in the 996 forum, but Doclouie is spot on with his advice

The carfax is available on the dealer's website. https://www.carfax.com/VehicleHistor...&partner=VAS_0

The 2005 4s model is a 996. 2wd 2005's are 997s. Most here would recommend you pursue a 997. Lots of upgrades 997 vs 996.

Avoid 996/997's with cold weather history. (sooty drivers side tail pipe, knocking sound are advanced bore scoring stages...initial stages is high oil consumption which you will never know until you buy and live with it..).

That car, from a dealer with unknown history/records.... probably avoid.

If you're in the market for a 996, I've got mine for sale here

Carfax indicates a 2005 C4S (which is not RWD but AWD) and as someone else said, must be a 996 since the 997 C4S wasn't introduced until 2006.

No disagreement on that but how do you PPI the IMS apart from looking for oil leaks? I know you can bore scope the cylinders looking for bore scoring but an IMS about to go bad...?

What percentage of cars are affected by these things? I find it difficult to believe this is that common. Heck one buys a brand new mclaren or a ford Taurus from that same year and your engine will go bad before my chance of having an issue with this car...

The facts are out there - it's more common than you think. I PMed you privately to explain, but there's a lot of information out there about it - and cars from colder climates are at higher risk:

etc. etc.

Buying just any Porsche is not for the faint of heart. They *will* cost you, and buying the best, most researched and documented car you can afford is the recommended way to go.

Unless the buyer or seller chimes in with that number......I dont think its available online.

Google VIN search says it was listed for $22K out of IL from a dealer.
