-2006 997 C4 Cabriolet - Silver/black. 85K miles and Manual transmission.
-Car born in Chicago until 30K miles and has lived in California
-All services done at Porsche dealership. Only small number of service records in file - 29 Porsche Dealer services on Carfax and all oil/filter services on Carfax at proper intervals including most recent in March '21.
- In great condition excellent paint and interior. Only interior flaw is small rear passengers seat bottom has indentations from baby car seat.
-Had minor 3" paint scuff on rear fender lip from bicycle tire rub(sellers son) in garage. Went thru insurance to have it repaired so shows on Carfax.
-Full leather/heated seats/high end Bose system/crests in seat headrests
Seller asking $36K

Knowing that you make money on a car when buy it tells me it won’t be in 30’s.

Knee is coming along. Thx!
Had seller ground down to $31K prior to PPI but PPI results were not good - Car has many areas of paintwork and will need clutch/flywheel/water pump soon including tires as well. Also drivers door has had some form of repair and paint gauge showed thick areas.
Offered $24K which got a few seconds of hope but in the end a no-go - Just got my deposit back and on the hunt!
All the best to everyone

Outside of the contest you guys seem to be enjoying, I wonder if I can pick your brains about a real topic.

I am considering a car on an auction site. The car is on the other side of the country from me. The seller is open to a PPI and I have found what appears to be a good local shop to do it.

Question is Who pays for the PPI before the auction ends and anyone knows who won?

I am guessing it's me in this case but it seems not right if we don't have a deal on the car.

I guess I could agree to split the cost 50-50 and then pay all if I win.

Thoughts?

I would think anyone posting a car on an auction site would pay for or perform the PPI for all involved. But not all nor do many auctions include that. PPI is tough because you want impartial and if they pay for it how do you know.

If you decide you want it. You pay for it and only you get the results. Seller should not advertise information to other buyers that you paid for.

I always wonder about this. Why don’t auction sellers do a PPI and post findings? If I was a seller, I would rather do that then spend time facilitating multiple PPI’s. Private party is a different story.
I agree with the above. You pay and the results are for your eyes only. Should be simple for the shop to understand since you’re paying for the service.

It's always on the buyer to pay for it, because it is buyer beware, and seller has no legal obligation to disclose anything to you. Cars are sold "as is, where is". In some states, dealers may have some slightly higher disclosure obligations, but most do not require anything more. Nor should they IMHO. If I am buying, it isup to me to get as comfortable as I need to before buying anything. Residential real estate is an exception - most states require a comprehensive disclosure be completed by the seller as part of the sale documents package.

This is a terrible idea in my view. A ppi can disclose things with silly little crap that can screw up an otherwise good sale. If you publically post a ppi, lots of peanut gallery types will nit pick it to death, and ruin every sale. PPI's are smart to get as a buyer, and seller needs to accomadate reasonably, but not pay for it or arrange for it at some distant shop.If I am selling one of my cars and the potential buyer does not ask for a ppi, so be it. As far as I know, they all drive great and I am not aware of anything wrong with them. Anything can go on an older car at any time. I know that when I sell, and I know that when I buy. If the market does not like that, then the price gets driven down to take into consideration the potential risk. All things eventually sell.

My point is more for multiple PPI requests in the 7 day period. Imagine 5 people want to PPI your car. Are you really going to accommodate all of them?

Thank you gentlemen for sending congratulations and recognizing my win. Wow 3 wins in a row how cool is that?! I honestly thought I made a high bid on that C4S Targa but knowing how the market is right now I guess everyone thought it was going higher. $62,500 for that car is actually pretty damn high but Targas are one of those love or hate thing.
Ok up next is a 2009 C2 in macadamia with full cocoa leather interior. I think this car is going to bring big money for the low miles, 6sp manual and no IMS. I absolutely love the full leather interior of this car but not sure if it goes well with macadamia. Will be interesting to see how this car turns out as my 09 has similar specs. My guess $80,000.
