I thought we were the BAT crowd?

FYI - In my 35 years of Porsche ownership and shopping/purchasing over 40 Porsches, I have found that many Porsche cars, especially 996/997 models who's airbags have deployed is no reason to consider passing on a purchase.
I have PPI's done on all my cars and have found some examples with very minor bumper damage or other related type damage showing on CARFAX to have had sub-par repairs/paintwork, while others with more significant impact perhaps deploying airbag(Doesn't take a tremendous amount of force to deploy airbag) have had superior workmanship with newly replaced OEM parts and superb professional repairs/paintwork.
The amount of impact doesn't necessarily determine why airbags are deployed

Heres an interesting paragraph from an Excelence Magazine article regarding Porsche 997 airbags:
When an airbag-equipped car sustains a frontal impact, sensors immediately measure the impact force. Airbags are not designed to deploy at a specific vehicle speed but rather at a set threshold of vehicle deceleration based on the vehicle’s design. If the forces meet or exceed the set threshold, the sensor switch closes, the control unit receives this signal and, if the internal safety sensor also closes, the control unit sends voltage to the airbag’s pyrotechnic charge, which ig*nites and deploys the airbag.
In the real world, crashes take place at various angles and with other vehicles at various relative speeds. An air*bag will only deploy if the set deceleration threshold is met or exceeded. Hit a sizeable object or an animal on a highway and your car will sustain moderate to serious damage, but the airbags won’t pop unless the car decelerates abruptly enough to trigger a deployment.

Thanks for the response. The situation of buying a car using a bid when I have not been able to inspect it with the fact that an airbag has been deployed and I don't know how well the replacement was made concerns me.
It's just not being knowledgable enough that moves me away from making bids on a car like that.
I would feel more comfortable putting a bid on a car I know for a fact never had a deployed air bag to begin with. I have nothing against the seller, I have not raised any concerns about the impact level of the car as well.

IMO always best to buy a car you can see/drive in person and get PPI performed.
This way any prior accident damage whether large or small can be inspected up on lift with a thorough going over

My thoughts exactly! Why risk it with a car like this when there are enough lower risk ones on the market? It takes a really discerning buyer to make the call on an uninspected car, and I know I’m definitely not there either.

Ha! Are you guys actually making bids on these cars? I may have mistaken this for a low stakes betting game!

Doubt they're bidding...I'm not.. Just friend "for fun" betting what it'll go for.

I'm gonna hold out until Monday to put my guess down.

Definitely not bidding. This is just for fun, but it wouldn't surprise me if some $$ passes hands on side bets among participants.

I've bid a few times, haven't won one yet but that's not going to discourage me. The current 997 we are playing here is at $27k with 3 days left. That's pretty strong considering the real bidding doesn't start until a few minutes before the time is over.

I'm going "Out on a Limb" here with this one. Also I was going to wait until the last day on this one, but what the heck.

I'm going to guess this one will top $40K.....So, my guess is going to be $40,500.00

.

Not sure true "gambling" on this site would fly. Not sure I should also, given what I do and it's not legal in my state. lol

Thanks though. lol

Maybe someone else will do some side betting with ya.
