Check Engine Light - Blinked 10-15 seconds
I was going to take a quick drive and when I turned the car on I got the blinking check engine light. It only lasted about 10-15 seconds and went away. Should I be concerned. I checked with a cheap OD II reader and got P0301 Cylinder One Misfire. I cleared the code and drove the car around for about 5 miles and it felt fine. Has anyone encountered anything similar?

I've had something similar going on. Had the CEL light "visit work shop" come on a few times but cleared itself just by turning the engine off and starting it back again. Happened twice last week. Today the same light came on again but only stayed on for maybe 15 seconds and then cleared itself. Taking the car in to see what's going on. My service advisor says it won't hurt the car driving it as long as the light isn't flashing when it comes on.

Thanks for your response. Yeah, I've had the CEL come on twice (85 days apart) with faults P0300 (Random Misfire Detected) - Cleared with cheap ODB reader.
My concern this last time was the flashing CEL. Hoping it's nothing serious being it only flashed for a few seconds and disappeared. My brother-in-law thinks I may not be running the car hard enough and may have slight carbon build up. Hope it's just a fluke.

Consider checking the coil packs for any hairline cracks. Depending on age and usage, the older style that came on all 997.1s from factory have a tendency to crack and misfire once old or higher milage. A few years ago I replaced mine (on my previous 997.1) with the newer updated version at about 70K miles, and solved the random misfire issue. I was able to change plugs and coil packs with the car on the ground (lots of contortions) in about 2 hours, and wished I had done it sooner.
