Default 18 way seats vs sport buckets?

Does anyone have experience with these 2 seats? My wife's GT4 has the newer buckets, but how do the older GT2 997/987 era seats compare? We are looking at 987 Caymans, but most come with the 12-way seats. If we get one, I hope to find at least a nice 18-way here on the forums, if not the GT2 buckets. We are both fairly narrow, fit people, and love both the 991 18-ways and the 991 era buckets.

I put an 18-way in my '06 S and love the adjustments of the seat over my sport buckets, but they weren't bad. Being able to raise the front and back of the 18-way seat made it a fair-bit more comfortable for me. I cant say much for the bladders in the bolsters, but I do appreciate the lumbar bags. If you are thinking about the 18-ways, make sure you get a car with seat memory--and the seats you are looking for should have the memory module. I had a good deal of rewiring on that seat and probably wouldn't have done it if I had known what I was in for. But now I love it.

I had the 18-way in my Panamera GTS and loved them. Having that range of adjustability really made for a perfect fit. I especially liked being able to adjust the side bolsters for track days versus daily drives.

18 ways are great. The sport buckets in the 997 don’t sit low enough for me. Also they have quite an aggressive front angle to the seat so my thighs/knees go higher than I would like. I had the opportunity to buy a 997 C4S locally with them and passed due to the seats.

In the 981/991 cars like your wife’s GT4, the full buckets are great. More comfortable to me for sure.

As as a reference, I am 6’5” 190lbs or so.

Our 997.2 came with the GT2 bucket seat (no adjustment other than front/back slide), and it fits both my wife and I great. Only complain is that it sits too low for my wife (5'-2") and we are looking at getting adjustable brackets so we can raise the seat a bit.

The GT2 buckets in my old GT3 were infinitely more comfortable than the LWBS in my RS. Not sure if that helps/answers anyone's question.

18 ways full power adaptive sport seats is Porsche's best 997 seat. The support and range of adjustability are excellent. The only time I'd consider any other seat would be if I did a whole lot of tracking, then the carbon sport buckets would be the better choice since you can use them with a harness bar.

As a fellow Adaptive Sport Seat lover I'd have to agree - My wife loves the heated option too!

I wouldn't own a 997.2 without the adaptive sport seats. Way more comfortable for me than the other seats ironically called Power Comfort Seats.

Did you mean you wouldn't own one without the adaptive sport seats, in that you like them? That's not what your post says.

The 18-way seat is aptly named - it is very comfortable. I have sports buckets ( our Macan has 18-ways), they should be called 0-ways uncomfortable buckets. But that is only true, for me, referring to the sports buckets on longer drives 3+ hours. Anything less than that they surround and support me like being in a nest - they are not uncomfortable. That said, there is less padding, they are narrow, and there is a technique to get in and out of them. At the end of the day though, I favor the sports buckets because they make my 911 feel more like a sports car. I want to feel every crack in the road and every bit of body roll and slide that the car may experience. That is not to say that the 18-ways are bad, they are great seats; for what I use my 911 for the sports buckets serve me better. We each have our own purposes and the seats, ideally, should match the type of enjoyment we are looking for in our cars.

Great points. The buckets take a bit of getting used to getting in and out of but not a big deal as long as you don't have a bad back or other mobility issues. And once seated they make a huge difference in how you connect with the car imo. Your "nest" analogy is a good one. You really feel like you've become part of the car instead of just an addition to it. I've done 3 1/2 hour drives in them and felt just fine. That said, for those doing longer drives on a regular basis there are probably better choices.
