Shift Linkage Replaced - no more notchiness
 

Hi all. Was driving downtown, lost all forward power and luckily pulled into a street parking spot. Had no idea what the problem was but like most of us when it's a car issue your optimistic outlook vanishes. After having it towed I found out it was only my shift linkage and after $600 or so I'm back on the road. I was very surprised when I picked it up today that the shifting was so fluid and precise. I've owned the car for 7 years and shifting has always been a bit "heavy" and notchy - it was occasionally difficult to find second cleanly. I've posted on the forum about it before and it seemed like it was just one of those things you look past - they are just notchy. Just thought I would post for those that have heavy, occasionally notchy shifters. First, you are not alone and second, there is hope. Really a night and day difference.

Did the plastic ends of the OEM shift cables fail (common), did the cables pop out of the bracket under the car (common and should be wire tied in place), or did something in the shifter mechanism itself fail (not very common)?

I too have the same questions...
