997.2 all red LED tails?

Has anyone done this? I've photoshopped it, but curious if anyone has done an all red film over their LED tails to get rid of the white/clear section.

I did that w/ my old cayman and i was big fan of it.
I'm currently debating on doing that w/ my 997.2. However, it currently have the clear tail lights in.

I was thinking about trying doing all reds on mine since one of the lights have hazing inside. I used to have all red tails on my audi B5 and loved the look.

Let's see this photoshop. I got curious about doing it in a similar manner to the recent thread where somebody painted just the interior black.

As I'm sure you all know, Porsche offered a solid red tail light option for the 997.1 cars. I think it looked great on that car. I think doing something similar with the 997.2 cars would also look very good.

Suncoast makes a Red tail light film LaminnX that covers the white lens area for $59. Might be a way to try that look . I was thinking of getting the light tinted film to help protect my lenses as one of them had cracked and let 1/2 " of water in and messed up the Led's . Had to replace the whole lens unit .

I was under the impression that those clear LEDs in the middle of the 997.2 red tail lights were for illuminating what is behind the car when backing up at night. Am I wrong?

I enjoyed the look of the LaminX film, but I found them to be a PITA to apply correctly. They give you about 2mm on each side of room for error, and if you handle the vinyl too many times around the edges then you have the risk of losing adhesion and it looks janky where it should roll over the plastic edge.

My second gripe is $60 for two precut sheets of vinyl... that's a lot.

The reason I'm interested in the red is because I can get a roll of red adhesive tail light vinyl for $10 and mess around on some less than perfect tails I have.

You're partly right. Only the very center is reverse light.
Running light is the outer-most U-shaped lights at approx 50% brightness; brake light is the outermost U-shaped lights+the vertical bars nearest the decklid; rear fog is the left vertical bar nearest the decklid; turn signal is the middle ring of lights with the clear lens (which can be amber or red depending on your region, hence the clear); reverse light is the small center slit.
This is the thread I was thinking about. https://rennlist.com/forums/997-foru...7-2-tails.html you can see running lights, turn signal, and reverse light here.
