I hope that I am reading the fact pattern incorrectly but IMHO you make a "huge mistake". What were you concerned about? A possible issue with bore scoring? If the risks you were afraid of were so high, how do you rationalize a seasoned 997 owner buying your car for more than what you paid?

Huge mistake.....HUGE.
Seriously? That was completely uncalled for. My scattered comments on the subject are typically in response to misinformation from those trying to tout the M96/M97 as reliable as the 9A1 and throwing out failure rates that seem to be disputed by objective data.

Perhaps it is the stream of people that come on here and talk about their catastrophic failures of their own M96/M97 . . . . or the poll numbers showing 12.73 % of 997.1 owners experiencing bore scoring or the old IMS poll showing something like a double digit catastrophic failure rate for IMS before some combined the numbers with 997.2s and diluted the real data.

People on here are smart enough to make decisions based on objective evidence and their own risk tolerance and financial loss absorption abilities. Trying to shame me or call me out is pretty childish and I candidly don't care.

If you don't care, then don't react. I am sure that I am not alone in wanting you to stop the crap you keep throwing at the 997.1. Rethink your comments.

The main bearing was failing, causing the car to vibrate at idle. There was an oil leak but I didn't think it was that bad, so maybe that was why, or PO couldn't drive a manual. I thought it was the engine mounts but unfortunately I was wrong.

I think I've already found the replacement. Going to look at it this weekend.

997.1 TT

I did the same transition, from a 997.1S to a 997TT.

Check to to see if the coolant lines have been dealt with.. good luck!

Does the 997.1 TT need the cams pinned as well? The coolant lines are definitely nothing to mess with, the failure rate is super high.

Yeah, that failure isnt as prevalent, although I did have that issue with my car while it was still under CPO warranty a couple of years ago.

For what model years of the 997TT were the coolant lines problematic? All of them?

I think it is all Metzger engines, GT3 included. You can’t do a track day with PCA unless they have been pinned due to the risk of failure.

The cam sleeve can spin out of position but as mentioned, it's pretty rare and the expense ($6k minimum) and lack of real repercussions if it happens means it's not usually a preemptive fix unless you have your engine torn apart for some other reason.

I was going to call you a sinner for selling the 997...but this makes up for it. Excited to see the mods you do. I saw a TT with spoiler delete the other day and it looked epic. TT Touring has my vote.

Good luck and send some pics.

987.2 Caymans are dropping into that range with regularity; I have seen several really nice manuals in the last couple of months with low miles anywhere from $32-40k. DFI engine! $3500 in that 3.4L nets you 365hp, so I would say that is comparable. It is lot faster and more capable than a 997.1, which is why they are so damn popular for DE events.

Heck, here is a higher mile 981 CS with X73 for under $40k. Sure, it is a PDK, but you can find a manual if you are patient. I would also consider this an improvement over a 997.1. It is certainly a quicker car on a technical track, and the power to weight ratio is also superior.

Edit! I see you purchased a TT. Nice. I suppose you paid more than $40 for her though?
