Extended warranty for 2009 997.2 ????

Wife got them on both her 997.2s and never used it on either car. Probably would not have purchased warranty except for a slight concern about the pdk. Only issue we had was high pressure fuel pump and that was covered under goodwill.

Decided to do a little research and got quotes for top tier protection from each provider on a '09 C2 w/ 64k miles:
  • Endurance - 4/40 w/ $200 ded, $5,100
  • Concord - 5/75 w/ $100 ded, $4,500
  • Infinite - 5/25 w/ $100 ded, $3,300
  • Liberty Bell - 5/50 w/ $100 ded, $3,000
Obviously these aren't all exactly comparable but give a pretty good idea of what to expect and are far more affordable than the >$10k for Fidelity Platinum quote I got. Actually thinking about pulling the trigger on one of the lower cost 5 yr plans... even if I don't keep the car forever, this should add some value when selling the car... or I can just get a prorated refund.

for Infinite and Liberty Bell, call back and ask for a lower price. On my car 09 C4S with 80k for a 5/50k Infinite went from $4,200->$3,300->$2,700 and dropped the deductible down to $0. Liberty Bell also dropped prices about 20% and threw in free deductible and rim and tire protection.

As I stated before I don’t know if they are any good, just passing on my research and information.

Before signing up talk to any service advisor at any P dealer. Show them the names and ask if they worked with any of them in the past. Get feedback..who pays easily and who nickle dimes.. Thats how I found out about EZCare, GWC and AUL that I have had in the past for my Bmw..

My experience with the local dealership is that they have only worked with the vendor of the third party contracts their finance department sells and don’t know about about others (including Fidelity). In the case of Audi Minneapolis and Audi St Paul that company is Zurich insurance whose prices are closer to 10k for a 3 year contract. I did have the sales rep for Infinitie Auto call Audi St Paul and talk to a service advisor and he said that it all seemed fine.

In theory. The biggest concern is they will disallow any expensive claims as pre-existing condition or for lack of service records. I have had no success getting these clauses added to the extended warranty offered by any company.

hmm.. I don’t have much in terms of past service records, but I have a comprehensive pre purchase inspection report

So do I. That doesn't give you a leg to stand on if they disallow a claim for lack of service.

True. But I believe it is your history with the car going forward that matters. I plan to do all services religiously and hopefully that, along with the inspection, will suffice.

Lol yes.

i definitely would want verification ahead of time about what is required to have a claim paid out and what would deny it. And have that clearly defined in writing.

Fidelity appears to be the best for not being shady but is also the most Expensive

I did some more research and one “gotcha” is if the part in question is considered a “wear” part - Eg something that naturally wears out over time (not just normal wearables like brakes and tires).

Does anyone know if the piston and cylinder are considered “wear” items?

On my -09 C4S I had a policy basically identical to CPO or Fidelity Platinum so exclusionary, clearly stating what was NOT covered. Bought it from a Lexus dealer but can't remember the name of the company. Did a lot of research on them though and they had a good reputation. When the PDK on that car failed I got zero push back from them and the $14,000 replacement was approved with little or no discussion.

As for any expensive repair being denied because of the pre-existing condition argument, I don't get that and never heard of it either. I suppose an argument could be made along those lines for a blown engine that it turns out has been driven 30,000 miles without an oil change but for a car with a normal as required service/maintenance history I don't see how an exclusionary policy could deny that same claim on the basis of "pre-existing condition".

If that was a valid and legally acceptable reason for denial of coverage then every warranty including factory warranty on a brand new car would be worthless since some engines fail at very low miles and with perfect maint. records. In other words, every car on the road has a pre-existing condition by virtue of having complex mechanical and electronic parts put together into one package. And sometimes part of this package fails, at times being expensive parts with low mileage.
