Default C4S Totalled??

So today, after 3 months of blissful 997 ownership I became the victim of horrendous LA driving and got popped. Its bad. 2006 C4S, 100k miles - I'm pretty sure it's going to get totalled by the insurance co.

Drivers side wheel is a good 30 degrees pushed in, suspension also pushed in - can't tell how bad. Assessor will get to it on Monday. I'm guessing with this level of assumed structural damage my pride and joy for the last 90 days is one and done.
I'm trying to be all Buddhist about this - material possessions, its just a lump of metal and no one was hurt etc etc, but taking it pretty bad right now. That and I had to wait 5 hours for a tow while the wonderful folks of LA hurled abuse at me since it was blocking a lane at Wilshire and Western.

Thoughts?

That sucks.

Getting hit in the front isn't as nasty as the rear. Could be a steering rack and some body work. Could be totaled with the near future joy of shopping for a replacement armed with your last 90 days of experience.

Take deep breaths over the weekend. The insurance company will let you know soon enough.

Sorry to hear about this.

How do the panel gaps around the rest of the car look, like the fender on the other side relative to the door. If it's a broken tie rod, damaged steering rack, wheel carrier, front strut, and a fender, you might be OK.

If there was any airbag deployment or seat belt tensioners fired, that's a whole different story, purely from a cost perspective and it will probably get totalled.

Good luck.

Looks like an easy repair. I've fixed much worse in my garage. Sorry to see it happen to you nonetheless.

That sucks, sorry to hear. Wilshire & Western..... gotta be a joke there about a certain “subset” of LA drivers.... Jokes aside, maybe the silver lining is you get to go shopping for a new one now?

I actually don’t think it is as bad as you might think.

Piece of cake... no problem. Now all those stone chips and spider scratches will be gone! Woohoo.

Peace

Really sorry to hear that. That being said, fixing totaled sports cars is all the rage on Youtube these days. After watching B is for Build and Tavarish that dent will look like child's play :-)

BTW - what is that slime coming out of the driver's door? Was a slurpy involved...?

It doesn't look too bad at all except emotional impact of cause. Probably subframe, LCAs, steering rack, and sheet metal. My guess around $6-8k.

Depends on the amount of hidden damage. I've had a few times (well 3 total now) when idiots have backed into me. Each time it was $5k and a month without my car.

For me, it is hard to tell from the photos but it looks to me to be just the fender which is a non-structural bolt-on item, scraped bumper, as well as a need for a new or re-finished wheel. It could be worse ( structure, suspension, engine, etc.). Good luck with the outcome!

Not a $5K job. Maybe the parts are $5k but the labor and paint and all the other supplies, frame rack charges, etc. will bring it over $10K. Body shops are as bad as hospitals when loading on all the charges to the bill.
