Looks really good! You might have a hard time finding takers considering new 997.2 tails almost doubled in price late last year. $590 each now.

Thanks! And I agree!

It actually looks very similar to the lightly smoked Dectanes I have on my 997.1, but I understand they don't make these for the .2s like yours - actually Dectane doesn't make the smoked version at all anymore or the completely clear one that they called crystal, just red/white and smoked red/white. I like the smoke because it hides the individual LEDs some and why I also changed my front LEDs to the newer style.
Petza, the way they are sealed will definitely not allow any water in. We’re having a whole bunch of rain right now in SoCal and they’re holding up fine!

As for the tails, I’ve never seen the ones on your 997.1 in person but it looks like they’re mostly tinted. These do not look tinted at all which is what makes it so unique. The red looks more like a dark cherry red with gloss black.

Thanks! I’ll try to take some higher quality pics to post and show the detail. The red looks much nicer and more of a dark cherry red.

I like the look, interesting idea.
Yeah. It’s the chrome housing so this alone changes the look a lot.

Doesn't seem worth the effort to go through all that work.

It may appear similar through the pictures although I don’t think so. Tint is over the red so it’s more of a smoked look. The blacked out housing is under the red so the red itself looks cherry red like 997.2.
Tint looks cheap and ghetto IMO. You also dim the output of the LEDs with tint. Having the housings painted doesn’t affect the LEDs output at all since they have forward facing optics.
I think it’s worth it

I like it a lot. It would look even better on my Meteor Gray car.

Any pictures of this after painting it?

I agree! I originally wanted a Meteor Gray but couldn’t find one with the options I wanted. Would love to do a set for you so we can see how it looks

Very nice !
What was your method of separating the lens from the housing?
Are you going to do the same to the headlights?

Willing to sell them as a project if anyone wants to smoke the inners/etc.

I'm also interested in buying a new set, so PM me if you have a pair also.
Please PM me some pictures of the lights. Or if you want you can send your good set in and temporarily use the cracked set until you receive your newly painted set back in.

Correct, I’m finishing up my headlights now. Will make a separate thread for that. It’s a worlds first build on that as well

I have 1 more set available that I’m willing to do at a discounted price. It’s getting plenty of interest

No clear ones yet! But be the first to find out

Does anyone want a pair of LED tail lights for a huge discount over new ($900 a pair for ULO) to do this?

I have my tails with cracks on the lenses in each up for grabs (fully working, but you can see where the cracks have developed. Include LaminX tint.

This thread prompted me to ask something I've been meaning to for a while. Has anyone come across a vendor offering updated LED DRL and tail lights for the 997.2? I guess the best way I could describe my ask is LED's that are a solid bar as opposed to the LED "dots" we have. If this warrants a new thread let me know.

I ask the question as the 997 is a timeless design barring the 2009 technology / feel of the led's. Maybe that's "character" but I've been meaning to ask. Thanks in advance.
