Caliper Re-Finish in Eastern NC?
Kind of random, but does anyone know of any places that you can take your car to, and they break apart the Calipers and re-finish them? Previous owner tracked the car, and I mean its 10 years old so the calipers don't look perfect anymore. Before I buy new wheels, I would like to have that done. Baker Collision in Wilmington NC is close to me, and they do it for $400 a caliper.

That’s very expensive so I would look elsewhere. Also if you take them apart and put them back together you can save a lot of money. I used to use a guy in Atlanta (Mike the Powdercoater) and iirc it was 120 for the fronts (disassembled). Parts are cheap, not at all difficult, and you learn a new skill!! |
This is a great DIY project. I used many of the post on this forum to repaint the calipers on my car. At 400 bucks a caliper, the cost of one caliper would pay for most if not all your paint and other supplies needed.

You can do it yourself without even taking the brake lines loose, just the calipers loose from the wheel carriers, which means no bleedng at the end.
It takes a lot of patience for the cleaning masking of things you don't want painted, but the 2 part epoxy based paint kits like D2 hold up extremely well if the prep was done right. Dont use the spray can versions or the brush on versions that just air dry without the hardener. I did the calipers on my Saab Turbo about 25 years ago (it's my Dad's now), the calipers on my pickup 15 years ago, and my wife did her 997 ones 6 years ago. All still look great. Here's a picture of a Red S caliper when originally done back in 2013. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...3d567fee92.jpg Here's the same one from the brake job I did in 2018 https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...38cc211929.jpg |
Thanks for the info all. Wouldn't mind paying someone like $200 a caliper do, but $400 is ridiculous. If I do it myself, it wont happen for a long, long time haha.

Wheel Dynamics does this as a service, for around $160/caliper.
https://wheeldynamics.com/brake-calipers.html Of course, all their disclaimers about how they can't promise a timeline makes me wonder if you have to go without brakes for a frustratingly long amount of time. |
These guys are well known in the air cooled crowd. They do water cooled too:
